Charles R. Pippins

Charles R. Pippins

Charles Ray Pippins, son of the late Rube and Ruby Glass Pippins, was born on March 21, 1932, in Bernie, Missouri, and passed into heaven on December 20, 2012, at the age of 80.

 

Charlie was a devoted member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Dexter.  He served many capacities in the church as Trustee and caregiver utilizing his talents to “fix anything”.  He was an active supporter of the church youth program and most recently of youth sports at the Dexter Schools.  He was an avid bird hunter and aviation enthusiast.  In his youth, he attended Bernie Schools and then graduated from Dexter High School in 1950.  In the 1950’s, he worked for Worley Implement Company as a mechanic.  Charles began farming in 1960 with family members and later as an individual farmer until his recent retirement.

 

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Faye Pippins on May 24, 1955, who passed away on May 29, 2007.  He was also preceded in death by one daughter in infancy, Charlyn Cay Pippins; by one sister-in-law, Ruth Esther Mayer; and by one brother-in-law, Carter Ronald Worley.

 

Mr. Pippins is survived by one daughter, Jill Goddard and her husband, Matthew Goddard, and their two sons, Charles Carter Henning and Hal Daniel Goddard, all of Jones, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by one brother, Bill Pippins, Sr., and his wife, Mary Ellen Pippins; by one sister-in-law, Mary Worley; and by one brother-in-law, Bob Mayer, all of Dexter; by several nieces and nephews and many friends.

 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, December 23, 2012, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.  Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 24, 2012, at 10:00 A.M., at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Williams officiating.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

 

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Building Fund, 224 East Stoddard Street, Dexter, Missouri  63841; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee  38105; or a charity of your choice.

Shirley Faye Edmonds

Shirley Faye Edmonds, daughter of the late Willie Broadus Long and Florence Rose Ella Haddock Long was born in Wayne County, Tennessee on September 25, 1937 and departed this life in Golden Living Center in Dexter, Missouri on December 19, 2012 at the age of 75.

Mrs. Edmonds was a homemaker and a resident of Parma, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to William Eugene Edmonds in Dexter, Missouri on August 5, 1984.  Mr. Edmonds preceded her in death on February 21, 2010.

Survivors include one son, Allen Horton of Powe, Missouri; one step-son, David Edmonds of Marble Hill, Missouri; one daughter, Lisa Shafer of Minor, Missouri; two step-daughters, Carolyn Parker of Whitewater, Missouri and Lynda Argueta of Marseilles, Illinois; by three brothers, Thomas Long of Malden, Missouri, David Long of Parma, Missouri, Gene Long of Lilbourn, Missouri; by four sisters, Ann Cook of New Madrid, Missouri, Betty Tabor of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Brenda Warren of the state of Ohio and Nadine Jones of Waynesboro, Tennessee; by twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; also by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death other than her parents and her husband, by one step-son, Kenny Edmonds; by two brothers, Paul Edward Long and Stanley Earl Long; by one sister, Linda Ann Turner; by one grandson, David Edmonds.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in BERNIE, Missouri on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M.   Funeral services will then be conducted at 1:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating.  Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

William Lee DePriest

William Lee DePriest joined his heavenly father on December 16, 2012.  William Lee DePriest was born on September 6, 1918, in Linden, Tennessee to William Nathan DePriest and Verna Berry DePriest. 

William was united in marriage to Mertie Kathryne Moore on April 25, 1938, and to this union three children were born, Vivian, Ronald and Darryl.  William moved his family to Dexter, Missouri in 1945 when he entered the Navy.  He served in the Navy for two years during World War II.  They were married for twenty-one years.  Kathryne preceded him in death on May 14, 1959.

William married Goldie Watkins on November 11, 1960.  She had four sons, George, Jr., Bobby, Larry and Paul David.  They were married for fifty years.  Goldie preceded him in death on January 24, 2011.  William was a retired plumber and a rural water district employee.

William was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, three brothers, three sisters, two grandsons, two stepsons and one great-granddaughter. 

He is survived by a daughter, Vivan Burnsed, of Dade City, Florida; by two sons, Ronald DePriest of Derby, Kansas and Darryl DePriest of Fulton, Missouri; by two stepsons, George Watkins, Jr. of Bloomfield, Missouri and Larry Watkins of Dexter, Missouri; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-great-great grandchildren; by one brother, Glen DePriest of Chattaroy Washington; and by one sister, Helen Vaughn of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home on Thursday, December 20, 2012, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 21, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Greg Stevens officiating.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Rose Ellen Harper

Rose Ellen Harper, daughter of the late Morton LeBeau and Carrie Gray LeBeau, was born on January 8, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on December 18, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 72.

Mrs. Harper was a resident of Dexter, a member of the First Christian Church of Dexter and formerly worked as an insurance agent.

She was united in marriage to Lowell Harper on July 2, 1961, at Dexter, Missouri.  Mr. Harper survives at the home.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Michelle Aaron, and her husband, Danny, of Dexter, Missouri; by two grandchildren, Dylan and Addyson; by one brother, Phil LeBeau, of Dexter, Missouri; and by one sister, Betty Mayer, of Dexter, Missouri.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, December 20, 2012, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.  Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel at 11:00 A.M., with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Lance Ludell Cannon

Lance Ludell Cannon was born on Dec 24, 1917, in Bassett, Arkansas, son of the late Frank and Maude Bennett Cannon, and passed away Monday, Dec 17, 2012, in the Cypress Point Nursing Home in Dexter at the age of 94.

On July 20, 1940 he married Clara Irene McClung, who preceded him in death on April 12, 1994, after 54 years of marriage, and to this union, three children were born. Mr. Cannon was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, and had served in the Pacific during World War II. He had lived and worked as a farmer and carpenter in Essex, Missouri since 1946.

Mr. Cannon is survived by his son Malcom Cannon and daughter-in-law Anna Cannon of Essex, Missouri, and daughter Sheila Turner of Pinellas Park, Florida. Additional survivors include four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Sidney Cannon of Memphis, Tennessee, and his brother and sister-in-law James and Gertrude Cannon of San Antonio, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Billy Leon Cannon, and six brothers, Robert Cannon, Odell Cannon, Martin Cannon, Leroy Cannon, Guy Cannon, and Pat Cannon.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm in the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter officiating.

Burial will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
