Vallie Walls
Vallie Walls, son of the late Edward and Nettie Mae Riley Walls, was born in Malden, Missouri on November 19, 1921, and passed away at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on November 27, 2012, at the age of 91 years and 7 days.

Vallie grew up in the Parma area and moved to Pontiac Michigan until 1978 when he retired from Pontiac Motors and moved back to Bernie, Missouri.  He had worked in maintenance repairing machines.  He was a member of the  First Presbyterian Church of Dexter.  He was a member of the Elks for several years, a past member of the Dexter Eagles, and a member of the UAW.

On March 15, 1941, he was married to Lois Gilbow, she preceded him in death on March 4, 2000.  On February 14, 2001 he was married to Mary Sue Robinson in Piggott, Arkansas.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Sue Walls of Bernie; two sons, Jerry Walls of Dexter, Gary Walls of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Tom Robinson of Bernie, Missouri; one daughter, Doris Turner of Bernie, Missouri; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and one brother, Hubert Walls of Florida.  Other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, after 11:00 a.m. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Tom Bass of Cape Girardeau, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow at the Duncan Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Wanda Martin
Wanda Martin, daughter of the late Arthur Wilson and Verna Gibbs Wilson, was born on September 12, 1942, in Dexter, Missouri, and died peacefully on November 28, 2012, at her residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 70.

 

Mrs. Martin was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and daughter.  On June 1, 1962, she was united in marriage to Gary L. Martin at the Assembly of God Church in Essex, Missouri.  She was a member of Sadlers Chapel UMC in Dexter and worked as a beautician, bookkeeper and phlebotomist throughout her career in the area.

 

Survivors include her husband, Gary; daughters, Andrea, Kendra and Eleshia; grandsons, Allan and Gavin; sons-in-law, Scott Terrill and Mike Cramblitt; sister, Anna Lois and Floyd Malone of Phoenix, Arizona; brothers, Robert and LaVonne Wilson of Dixon, Missouri; Edward Wilson of Wren, Georgia, Loren and Gloria Wilson of Essex, Missouri; and sister-in-law, Joyce Wilson Lacey, of Dexter, Missouri; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cheryl Martin Boyd; granddaughter, Ariel Boyd; sister, Catherine Rodgers; brother, Nelson Wilson; and nephew, Ben Kruse.

 

Visitation will be held Friday, November 30th, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., at Sadlers Chapel UMC in Dexter.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 1st, at 11:00 A.M., at Sadlers Chapel UMC with Rev. Tony Phillips officiating.  Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements will be conducted by the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mrs. Martin’s memory to 18 Fore Life, 705 Laurie Circle, Dexter, Missouri  63841 or to Eleshia Martin’s college fund.

Verlin L. Waggoner, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Anna May Middleton Waggoner, was born on November 21, 1930, in Pyletown, Missouri and passed away at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on November 23, 2012, at the age of 82 years.

Mr. Waggoner had lived in the Dexter area all of his life. He had worked as a Mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Bridge Church of Christ.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and served in the Korean War.  He volunteered with the Dexter Baseball Youth League, bowled on a league at Dexter Bowl, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Mizzou Tigers.

On October 8, 1954, he was married to Freeda Pruett in Dexter, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife; Freeda Waggoner of Dexter, Missouri; two daughters, Sue Waggoner-Flowers of Dexter, Missouri, and Sandy Basham of Dexter, Missouri; one son, Kenneth Waggoner of Dexter, Missouri; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vera Edwards.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Bridge Church of Christ in Pyletown, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at the Bridge Church of Christ in Pyletown, Missouri with Bro. Bernie Crum of Park Hills, Missouri officiating.

Memorials maybe made to the Stoddard County Children's Home, PO Box 164, Dexter, Missouri 63841.

Interment will be in the  Chalkbluff Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements

Dwight Russell McQuary

Dwight Russell McQuary passed away on November 20, 2012 at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 79 years.  He was the son of the late Broyles Sumner and Ada Ray McQuary.

Born on July 31, 1933 in Dexter, he graduated from Dexter High School then joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean conflict. He then attended Logan College in St. Louis, Missouri and returned to Dexter to start a chiropractic practice until he was hired by Shelter Insurance as a claims adjuster.  He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1969 to continue his career with Shelter Insurance until he retired.  

In 1990 he moved back to Dexter and married Muriel Joy Kilmer, who preceded him in death in 2006.

Mr. McQuary is survived by three sons & spouses, Mark McQuary (Carolyn) of Tallahassee, Florida; John McQuary (Ana) of Stuttgart, Germany; David McQuary (Susan) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne McQuary.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Dexter, Missouri, with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.

Interment will be in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri at 3:00 pm on Friday, December 14, 2012, with full military honors. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P O Box 156, Dexter, MO  63841 or the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA  22311.

Joy Marie Riggins Hampton

Joy Marie Riggins Hampton, daughter of the late Travis “Jack” Riggins and Rose Isaac Riggins was born on November 10, 1940, in Dudley, Missouri, and departed this life on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at her residence in Dudley, Missouri, at the age of 72.

She married Ervin Hampton in 1965 and moved to St. Louis where she worked for Southern Pacific Communications.  From their union, three daughters were born.  Mr. Hampton preceded her in death on July 1, 1982.  She later moved back to Dudley and was a homemaker.

In August of 1987, she met a very special man, Marion “Red” Lynch, and spent the rest of her life with him by her side.  She is survived by three daughters, Linda and Lloyd Hull of Puxico, Brenda Hampton of Dudley, and Sharon and David Phillips of Puxico; three grandchildren, Mandy Hampton Powell and her husband, Eric Zachary Hull, and Dalton Phillips; and three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Waylon and Aubree Jean Powell.  Also, a special niece, Sheri Lynn Barker, of Tyler, Texas.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, Herman Riggins, Howard Riggins, James “Curley” Riggins and Ed Riggins; and three sisters, Betty Barker, Lorene Abernathy and Mary Hays.

If you ever drove by a home that she lived in, then you already know that a passion of hers was working in her yard.  She loved planting and growing beautiful flowers and grasses.  One thing she loved more was caring for her grandbabies.  She looked forward to every moment she could spend with them.  She never missed a volleyball, baseball or basketball game.

Family may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter beginning at 5:00 P.M., friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 28th.  The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 29th with the Rev. Ray Placher officiating.  Interment will follow in the Ash Hill Cemetery in Puxico.
