Lloyd E. Pope

Lloyd E. Pope, son of the late Benjamin Franklin Pope and Lillie Caroline Hale Pope, was born on July 5, 1925, in Chaonia, Missouri, and departed this life at his residence in Essex, Missouri, on October 3, 2012, at the age of 87.

Mr. Pope was a member of the Olive Branch Church near Essex, Missouri, and was employed by the J. P. Ross Cotton Company in Frisco.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Custer.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time with his family.

He was united in marriage to Mae Treadway on October 24, 1946, in Piggott, Arkansas.  Mrs. Pope survives at the home in Essex.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Deb Pope of Dexter, Missouri; by one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dennis Wilson of Dexter, Missouri; by one brother, Floyd Pope, of St. Louis, Missouri; by three grandchildren, Shaydra Pope, Stephen Wilson and Eric Wilson; by six great-grandchildren, Brooke Patterson, Lauren Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Lincoln Wilson and Arden Wilson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Adam Lee Pope and Clarence “Pete” Pope; and by two sisters, May Miller and Dorothy Padgett.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 6, 2012.  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter.  Interment will follow at the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri.

Memorials may be made to the Olive Branch Church.  Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Trisha Lynn "Teresa" Sanders, daughter of Robert Black and the late Ruth Louise Sprinkle Black, was born in Dexter, Missouri on June 4, 1959, and passed away at her home in Dexter, Missouri on October 3, 2012, at the age of 53 years, 3 months, and 29 days.

Ms. Sanders had lived in Dexter most of her life. She had worked security at Golden Cat near Bloomfield. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are her father, Robert "Bob" Black of Scott City, Missouri; one daughter, Christi Moore of Dexter, Missouri; two sons, Ronald Weathers of Bonne Terre, Missouri and Jessie Weathers of Dexter, Missouri; three grandchildren; two brothers, Ricky Black of Rolla, Missouri, Wayne Black of Dexter, Missouri; and one sister, Mary Sanders of Sikeston, Missouri. Other family and friends also survive her. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Black and one sister Nelda Black.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter.  Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Velma Virginia Elizabeth Duke

Velma Virginia Elizabeth Duke, daughter of the late Andrew and Hattie Bear Carroll, was born on March 6, 1930, in Farinburg, Missouri and passed away at her son’s home in Puxico, Missouri on October 1, 2012, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 25 days. 

She had lived in Belleville, Illinois and New Madrid County most of her life and recently moved from Bloomfield to Puxico. She was a member of the Mormon Church.

 On January 7, 1950, she married her life long love, Raymond Duke, Jr. in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2012.

 Surviving are two sons and spouses, James Ray & Linda Duke of Dexter, Missouri, Louis Wayne & Nancy Duke of Puxico, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two brothers, J. D. Carroll of Killeen, Texas and James “Woody” Carroll of Durant, Mississippi. Other relatives and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Roger Duke on October 21, 1999, and one daughter, Raymona E. Duke on December 19, 2011.

 Friends may visit on Thursday October 4, 2012, after 10:00 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

 Memorial services will be held on Thursday October 4, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.  Interment will be in the Dogwood Cemetery in Dogwood, Missouri with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.

Louis F. Taylor

Louis Taylor, son of the late Charles Colin Taylor and Florence Melissalee Gammons Taylor was born on February 22, 1938, at Lilbourn, Missouri, and departed this life at his residence in Sikeston on September 30, 2012, at the age of 74.

Mr. Taylor was a welder for Tempo Metal Products in Toluca, Illinois, a former Police Officer at Lawston, Illinois, and a former resident of Bernie, currently residing in Sikeston.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Hendrix on September 1, 1956 at Hernando, Mississippi.  Mrs. Taylor preceded him in death on December 17, 2009.

He is survived by four daughters, Freida Rassi of Springdale, Arkansas, Carolyn Thomas of Lufkin, Texas, Michele Lacewell of Bernie and Theresa Taylor of Sikeston; by two brothers, Lee Roy Taylor of Piedmont and James Taylor of St. Charles: by  eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Taylor.

There will be no services for Mr. Taylor.  Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Sue Langston

 Patricia Sue Langston, daughter of Lesley Ray Mims and the late Barbara Sue Mims, was born on July 18, 1965, in Dexter, Missouri, and departed this life at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Missouri, on September 27, 2012, at the age of 47.

She was united in marriage to Willie Langston in November of 1983 at Dexter, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on August 24, 2002.

In addition to her father, she is survived by two sons, Brian Langston and Bradley Langston both of  the home in  Dexter, Missouri; by four brothers, Larry Ray Mims, of Dexter, Missouri, Gary Lee Mims, of Potosi, Missouri, Steven Wayne Mims, of Dexter, Missouri, and Terry Dale Mims, of Maryville, Illinois.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, September 31, 2012, from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M.  Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 31, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri, with the Rev.
