Dexter Falls To NMCC In SEMO Conference Bout
The Dexter Bearcats traveled to New Madrid on Friday night to take on the Eagles in a Semo Conference match-up.  Both teams entered the game with hopes of picking up their 2nd win of the season, and improving their position in the district standings.

Chase Young ignited the Bearcats offense, stacking up over 220 yards, and scoring both of the Bearcat touchdowns.  However, the Eagles also got a big time performance from their sophomore, TJ Clark.  Clark proved to be a triple-threat in the game, as he scored on offense, defense and special teams enroute to the Eagles 28-13 victory over the Bearcats.

Even though the Bearcats won the time of possession battle by over seven minutes, and outgained the Eagles by 109 yards (325-216); their problems executing in the Red Zone and miscues on special teams opened the door for the Eagles to come away with the victory in this hard-fought affair.

"I felt like we played hard tonight," said Dexter coach Aaron Pixley.  "But they made a few more plays tonight than we did," Pixley continued.

The Bearcats (1-5) received the opening kickoff, and began the drive at their own 31 yard line.  After two short runs, Dexter quarterback DJ Dowdy rolled out and found Austin Aldridge down the sideline for the completion and a 60 yard gain down to the New Madrid 7 yard line.

The Dexter defense opened up strong, and after forcing New Madrid to punt on it's first two possessions, the Bearcats moved the ball down the field on a 22 yard run by Joyner and found themselves in the Red Zone once again.  However, the end zone would once again prove to be elusive for the Cats.  A holding penatly followed up by back-to-back sacks ultimately forced Dexter to turn the ball over on downs at the Eagles 30 yard line.

"We had a couple opportunities in the Red Zone in the first half," explained Pixley.  "You have to execute very well at that point, and you cannot have penalties backing you up," he concluded.

Late in the second quarter, the Bearcats put an end to the scoring drought and took an early lead in the contest when Chase Young ran right up the middle untouched, and scorched the New Madrid secondary on a 77 yard touchdown run.  The PAT by Brad Wick put the Cats up 7-0.

With only 1:46 left in the opening half, it seemed apparent that Dexter would be on top going into the break, but that lead would only last for a few seconds.  TJ Clark took the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for the touchdown, knotting the half-time score at 7-7.

The Bearcats wasted no time in responding back with a score.  With 4:27 left in the third quarter, DJ Dowdy connected with Chase Young, and Young steaked nearly the length of the field on this 84 yard TD catch. The PAT attempt failed and Dexter remained behind by the score of 14-13. Young ended the night with 89 yards rushing and 132 yards receiving.  Like every other week this season, Young came up big for the Bearcat offense.

In New Madrid's next possession, quarterback Jashawn McDaniel quickly moved his team down the field and into Dexter territory.   TJ Clark found the end zone for the 2nd time of the night when he went around the left side of the field covering 17 yards for the TD and increased the Eagles lead to 21-13.

As the fourth quarter progressed and the end of the game was drawing near, the defensive units for both squads really stepped up their game.  With 2:00 remaining in the game, and the Bearcats needing a touchdown and a two point conversion to attempt a tie, they were forced to try and put the ball in the air in an attempt to cover the 78 yards needed for the score.

After 3 completions to Chase Young, the Bearcats moved the ball to midfield to set up a 3rd and 3.  On the next play, the pass sailed over the intended receiver and was intercepted by TJ Clark, who returned it 63 yards for a touchdown.  The third TD of the night by Clark secured the victory for the Eagles.

/images/2012 Article Pics/Sports/Bearcat Football/DHS vs NMCC 0928 Mid1.png"I felt like our team played hard," Pixley said after the game.  "We hit some big plays out there, but when playing against a team like this you really need to be able to move the sticks and not just rely on making big plays."  The Bearcats ended the game with 11 first downs.

New Madrid was able to "take a knee" on the following three plays enroute to a 28-13 victory over the Bearcats.  However, the final score of this one does not tell the story of how closely matched the contest actually was.

DJ Dowdy finished the game with 7 competions on 20 attempts for a total of 192 passing yards and one touchdown.  Chase Young ran for 89 yards on only 5 carries.  Ryan Joyner finished the game with 47 yards rushing.

Chase Young was the leading receiver, bring down 5 catches for 132 yards.  Austin Aldridge had one reception for 60 yards.

The leading tacklers for the Bearcats were Joyner and Logan Quertermous, who each had 9 tackles on the night.  Defensive End Holden Bruce had 7 solo tackles in the game, of which 3 were for losses.

The Bearcats return home next Friday night to take on the visiting Charleston Bluejays.  Kickoff is set for 7:00pm at Charles Bland Stadium.

Dexter Gets Set to Take on the Eagles

The Dexter Varsity Bearcats go on the road tonight at 7:00 P.M. to take on the New Madrid County Central Eagles. The game will feature the always interesting matchup of the head coaching brothers, Aaron and Arlen Pixley.

The Dexter Bearcats won their game last week against the Kennett Indians in convincing fashion. The Bearcats looked good on both sides of the ball.

The 'Cats played well behind an opportunistic defense and a well balanced offense as they went on to beat the Kennett Indians by the score of 26-7.

The New Madrid County Central Eagles come into the game with a record of 1-5 after a loss to a very good Caruthersville Tigers team. The Central Eagles only win this year came against the Kennett Indians on September 8th at home by the final score of 31-7.

/images/SMT/nmcc vs dexter preview pic.jpgIn the Eagles game against the Caruthersville Tigers last week the Eagles were defeated convincingly by the score of 41-14. After being down at halftime 27-0, the Eagles fought hard and managed a touchdown in each of the final two quarters of the second half.

"We gave up way too many big plays," NMCC head coach Arlen Pixley said. "Big plays have been killing us."

The Eagles have several talented and athletic players at the skill positions such as 6-3, 180-pound receiver, Devon Harrell.  Harrell scored one of the Eagles touchdowns on a 20 yard pass and subsequent 50 yard run in the third quarter.

The Tigers offense was too much to handle however as they won the game by the final score of 41-14.

With both the Bearcats and the Eagles only wins coming against the Kennett Indians, this looks to be a very interesting matchup of two teams looking to get another W in the win column.

Dexter Volleyball Defeats Sikeston

After two straight losses earlier in the week, the Dexter Lady Bearcat Volleyball Team picked things up last night in their game against Sikeston.

It was a very quick Junior Varsity win with a fast-pace Varsity victory immediately following.

The two losses earlier in the week were well-fought games and each player played their hardest. No fan or player walked into the Bearcat Event Center Thursday night hanging their head. The game against Sikeston was their opportunity to get back on a winning streak and pick up the team’s momentum.

The Bearcats took the victory against Sikeston in just two games. Dexter came out strong with their hitting game. That’s not to say that Sikeston didn’t return the favor though. The Sikeston volleyball team has a talent to be respected. The Dexter team refused to take no for an answer as they dug up many of Sikeston’s kills.

The first set was a little closer than some fans felt comfortable with, but Dexter ran away with the lead with a 25-17 victory. The second set went by much faster as the Bearcats barely let Sikeston gain a point. Dexter took the second set to end with game with a big 25-9 win.

The Bearcat volleyball team will be back on the courts for competition Monday night as they invite the Puxico Indians into the Bearcat Event Center for a Junior Varsity and Varsity match up.

SMT Players of the Week FIVE

SMT Players of the Week FIVE

SMT Players of the Week FIVE

Nothing excites a team like a victory.  The Dexter Bearcats found their first win of the season last week against the Kennett Indians by a score of 26 to 7.

The Bearcats had a good performance against the Indians both offensively and defensively.  With such a strong team effort and several standout players, picking the SMT Players of the Week was a long discussion among those voting members.

Senior leadership prevailed this week as both members are repeat choices for Player of the Week.  But there was no argument that others may have equaled the performance of Chase Noe and Ryan Joyner, but no one exceeded their contribution to the win.

Senior Ryan Joyner came out as the pick for WEEK FIVE and was named as the Offensive Player of the Week.  Joyner blasted through the line of scrimmage throughout the contest to put together 135-yards on the night.  Many times, the strong quick Kennett Indians defense would close the hole, and Joyner would simply take on the tackler heads up and come out with a good gain.

"Ryan ran the ball hard," added head coach Aaron Pixley.  "We are real proud of his performance last week."

The WEEK FIVE Defensive Player of the Week is defensive lineman, Chase Noe.  Chase was able to battle against the Kennett offense gathering 11 tackles on the night.

/images/2012 Article Pics/Sports/Bearcat Football/DHS Wk5 Players of the Week 495.png

Coach Aaron Pixley commented, "What can you say about Chase.  He's a gamer and a part of our senior leadership that we count on week in and week out."

The Bearcats will take on the New Madrid County Eagles Friday night in the battle of head coaches.  Arlen and Aaron Pixley have coached together and against one another.

The ShowMe Times is proud to highlight the individual performance of two Dexter Bearcat Football student-athletes each week as the SMT Players of the Week.  No one individual's contribution wins a game or makes the team strong.  Yet the coordinated effort of many make for a winning combination.
