SEMO Summer Academy Planned

CAPE GIRARDEAU – Southeast Missouri State University will offer its second annual summer Theatre and Dance Academy, an intensive theatre and dance educational experience for students in kindergarten through high school.

The Academy will be offered in two sessions: June 4-8 and June 11-15. Classes will be held at Southeast’s River Campus and in the Parker Dance Studio on Southeast’s main campus. Southeast faculty members and qualified senior level theatre and dance students will teach the classes, accompanied by a student assistant.

Morning classes to be offered June 4-8 include: “Ballet” for kindergarten-2nd grade, “Beginning Dance” for 3rd-5th grades, “Acting” for 6th-8th grades and “Stage Combat: Swashbucklers & Samurai” for 9th-12th grades. Afternoon classes include: “Acting” for kindergarten-5th grades and “Jazz” for 6th-12th grades.

Morning classes to be offered June 11-15 include: “Acting” for kindergarten-2nd grade, “Beginning Dance” for 3rd-5th grades, “Musical Theatre” for 6th-8th grades and “Contemporary” for 9th-12th grades. Afternoon classes include: “Ballet” for kindergarten-2nd grade, “Musical Theatre” for 3rd-5th grades, “Jazz” for 6th-8th grades and “Acting” for 9th-12th grades.

Students at all levels will learn a wide range of techniques to further their interest in the performing arts and increase their appreciation of theatre and dance.

Each class will conduct a final performance for family members on the last day it meets.

Classes will meet for one week Monday through Friday. Cost for a one-hour a day class for five days is $100, a two-hour a day class for five days is $125 and a three-hour a day class for five days is $150. Theatre and Dance season tickets holders and families with multiple children will receive a 15 percent discount.
