Robert L. Stuart

Robert L. Stuart, son of the late Walter and Roosevelt McGowen Stuart, was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on December 13, 1924, and passed away at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on July 9, 2011, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 26 days.
He had lived in Dudley, Missouri all his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Dexter. He was a member of the VFW Post in Puxico Mo. He worked for the US Postal Service for over 35 years in Dudley. He had served in the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII.
On May 1, 1948, he was married to Audrey Caldwell in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 7, 1999.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn & Richard Long of Dudley, Missouri; two grandchildren and spouses, Richie & Emily Long of Glencoe, Alabama, Denise & Tim Adams of Cordova, Tennessee; two great grandchildren, Braxton Long of Glencoe, Alabama and Ian Adams of Cordova, Tennessee. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers Eugene Stuart and Walter Stuart Jr.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 12, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at 1 p.m., at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri.
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Robert Lee Matt, Sr.

Robert Lee Matt, Sr., son of the late August Johan "Gus" and Pearl Lillian Leezy Matt, was born in Washington Park, Illinois on September 14, 1939, and passed away at his home near Dudley, Missouri on July 8, 2011, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 24 days.
He had lived in Cahokia, Illinois until moving to the Dudley, Missouri area in 1977. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He enjoyed working in the yard, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
On December 31, 1959, he was married to Linda Sue Radford in St. Louis, Missouri.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Sue Matt of Dudley, Missouri; two sons, Robert "Bobby" Matt, Jr. of Sikeston, Missouri, Mike Matt of Panama City Beach, Florida; two daughters, Christine South of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Lisa Taylor of Bruno, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Matt of Leesburg, Florida; two sisters, Betty Slagle of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Shirley McCart of Cahokia, Illinois. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Matt and one sister, Mary Lou Matt.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 10, 2011, from 5 until 8 p.m., at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Carolyn Burns

Mrs. Burns was a home-maker and resident of Bloomfield.
She was united in marriage to Luther Burns Jr. on January 24, 1958 at Dexter. Mr. Burns preceded her in death on December 12, 2003.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-laws, Randy and Sheri Burns and Kenny and Mary Ellen Burns all of Bloomfield: by three grandchildren, Amy Graham, Ryan Burns and Kayla Burns: by six great-grandchildren, Austin Eskew, Adison Musgrave, Isaiah Graham, Gracie Burns, Rylee Burns and Veronica Burns: by two brothers, Gene Woodall of Matthews and Pete Woodall of the State of Alabama: by four sisters, Nina Reed of Jackson, Gail Gibson of Dexter, Nancy Cooper of Bloomfield and Cathy DeMeyer of St. Louis: by other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula Kay Burns: by two sisters, Virginia Masters and Wanda Atchley.
Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 until 8 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Buddy Heaton officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery.

Orval E. "Monk" Harrison

Orval E. "Monk" Harrison, son of the late Charles Wesley and Mary Agatha McFarland Harrison was born May 1, 1914, and reared in Sikeston, Missouri, and passed away at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 2 , 2011, at the age of 97 years, 2 months and 1 day.
On January 27, 1945, he was married to Lena McKenzie in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on February 13, 2011.
Surviving are one daughter, Hannah Jane Harrison of Brentwood, Tennessee; one sister, Maxine Berkbigler of Floresville, Texas; one brother-in-law, Wayne McKenzie of Parma, Missouri; and seventeen beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by three brothers; Emory, Norval and Charles Harrison.
Orval was owner and operator of Harrison Farms at Parma, Missouri, where he was actively engaged in the business to 90 years of age. He raised corn, milo, soybeans, cotton, wheat, and horses. However, Orval was known throughout the U. S. for raising the finest beef cattle. His adept hand at raising beef cattle attracted buyers from all over the country and prompted the owner of South Memphis Stockyards to publicly declare his cattle to the the finest beef cattle to ever pass through the gates. Also, he was an avid hunter spending countless hours training his hunting dogs and proving his prowess on quail hunting expeditions with dear friends.
Most importantly, Orval Harrison was a very generous man in coming to the aid of those less fortunate, and he fed the needy with his beef. No one coming to his door seeking help was turned away.
He accepted Christ publicly at a Billy Graham Crusade in Nashville, TN, and in recent years, he was a highly respected member of the Brentwood, TN, community being honored with a Tennessee State Senate Resolution as one of Tennessee's most outstanding citizens.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 8, 2011, after 10 a.m., at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Parma, Missouri.
Services will be held Friday, July 8, 2011, at 1 p.m., in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Parma, Missouri, with Allen Tesreau of Campbell, Missouri, and the Rev. Roy Sherfield of Dexter, Missouri, officiating.
Interment will be in the Park Cemetery in Malden, Missouri, with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Parma, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Geneva Zengerle Pruitt

Geneva Kathleen Zengerle Pruitt, daughter of the late James Wyatt Bailey and Lillie Ann Hayes Bailey, was born on January 28, 1918 at Aid, Missouri and departed this life in the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter on July 4, 2011 at the age of 93.
Mrs. Pruitt was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, a member of the JOY Club at First Baptist Church, a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution, the former owner of Doc’s Restaurant at Lake Wappapello and a resident of Dexter.
She was first united in marriage to Louie Cleatus Norman at Sugar Tree. Mr. Norman preceded her in death in March of 1939. She was then united in marriage to Harris “DOC” Zengerle on July 3, 1943 at Dexter. Mr. Zengerle preceded her in death on December 17, 1973.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Jane Norman Hertzog of Greenwood, Missouri and Louise Norman Stevens of Dexter: by seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Bailey and Woodrow Bailey: by five sisters, Edna Anderson, Ora Almond, Iva Chasteen, Lucille Bland and Allene Stohlton.
Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from Noon until 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2011. Funeral services will then be conducted at 1:30 p.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Dr. Steve Easterwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Harper Cemetery at Aid.
