Stoddard County, Missouri - The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a Special Weather Statement until 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 4:30AM CDT TUE ...LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN EXPECTED LATE TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY

... A SLOW MOVING COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH THE QUAD STATE REGION TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MIDDAY WEDNESDAY.

ALONG AND JUST BEHIND THIS COLD FRONT, LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL IS FORECAST TO FALL ACROSS THE QUAD STATE REGION.

ALTHOUGH WIDESPREAD OVERLAND FLOODING IS NOT EXPECTED TO OCCUR, A FEW POORLY DRAINED AND LOW LYING AREAS MAY SEE SHARP RISES IN WATER LEVELS, INCLUDING SMALLER CREEKS, STREAMS, AND DITCHES.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS THROUGH WEDNESDAY WILL RANGE FROM AROUND ONE AND A HALF INCHES IN SOUTHWEST INDIANA AND NORTHWEST KENTUCKY, TO AROUND TWO AND A HALF INCHES IN THE OZARK FOOTHILLS OF MISSOURI.

THE TIME PERIOD OF GREATEST IMPACT DUE TO THE HEAVY RAIN WILL BE TUESDAY AFTERNOON INTO TUESDAY EVENING IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, AND MAINLY LATE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY ACROSS WEST KENTUCKY INTO SOUTHWEST INDIANA.

ALWAYS USE CAUTION NEAR DITCHES AND CREEKS WITH FAST MOVING WATERS AND AVOID ANY ROADWAYS THAT MAY BE COVERED WITH WATER.

TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.

Today's statewide tornado drill is an excellent opportunity for Missourians to practice their sheltering plans and ensure readiness in case of a severe weather emergency. The statewide drill provides schools, businesses and families with an opportunity to test their planning and readiness to be able to quickly seek appropriate shelter in case of a real severe weather emergency. By practicing and increasing readiness across the state, Missourians will feel confident and prepared in the event of actual severe weather emergencies.

Missouri’s annual Statewide Tornado Drill is part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, which includes:

Monday – Preparedness Day

Tuesday – Tornado Safety Day, including a tornado drill at 10:00 a.m.

Wednesday – Flash Flood Safety Day

Thursday – Severe Thunderstorm Day

Friday – NOAA Weather Radio Day

THIS HEAVY RAIN WILL FALL ON SATURATED GROUND, CAUSING WATER LEVELS TO RISE VERY QUICKLY.

... SUSTAINED WINDS THIS AFTERNOON WILL CONTINUE AT 15 TO 25 MPH OUT OF THE SOUTH, WITH GUSTS IN THE 30 TO 40 MPH RANGE, FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAYLIGHT HOURS.

ISOLATED GUSTS ABOVE 40 MPH ARE POSSIBLE. WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DIMINISH THROUGH THE EVENING.

EXPECT THESE STRONG WINDS TO IMPACT AREA TRAVEL AND OUTDOOR WORK, SO BE ADVISED, ESPECIALLY IF DRIVING A HIGH PROFILE VEHICLE.
