In Kentucky, Fulton County. In Missouri, Carter, Ripley, Butler, Stoddard, and New Madrid Counties

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING... WHAT...Heat index values of 105 to 110 expected. WHERE...In Kentucky, Fulton County. In Missouri, Carter, Ripley, Butler, Stoddard, and New Madrid Counties. WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM CDT this evening. IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

At 828 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Sikeston, Charleston, Scott City, East Prairie, Chaffee, Cairo, Fulton, Hickman, Clinton, Oran, Miner, Benton, Towosahgy State Historic Site, Big Oak Tree State Park, Bertrand, Morley, Kelso, Wyatt, Anniston and Dorena. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. ...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THURSDAY TO 8 PM CDT FRIDAY... WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions, with peak afternoon heat index values from 110 to 115. WHERE...Southeast Missouri, portions of southwest Illinois, and far western Kentucky, along and west of a line from Marion Illinois, through Paducah Kentucky, to Murray Kentucky. WHEN...From 11 AM Thursday to 8 PM CDT Friday. IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The excessive heat could potentially be locally interrupted by thunderstorm activity. However, thunderstorms are forecast to remain isolated at this time.
