Stoddard County, Missouri - The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a Flash Flood Watch through Saturday afternoon.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON...

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR * PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, SOUTHWEST INDIANA, WESTERN KENTUCKY, AND SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS, IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS, ALEXANDER, EDWARDS, FRANKLIN, GALLATIN, HAMILTON, HARDIN, JACKSON, JEFFERSON, JOHNSON, MASSAC, PERRY IL, POPE, PULASKI, SALINE, UNION, WABASH, WAYNE IL, WHITE, AND WILLIAMSON. IN SOUTHWEST INDIANA, GIBSON, PIKE, POSEY, VANDERBURGH, AND WARRICK. IN WESTERN KENTUCKY, BALLARD, CARLISLE, CRITTENDEN, HENDERSON, LIVINGSTON, MCCRACKEN, AND UNION KY. IN SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, BOLLINGER, BUTLER, CAPE GIRARDEAU, CARTER, MISSISSIPPI, NEW MADRID, PERRY MO, RIPLEY, SCOTT, STODDARD, AND WAYNE MO. * FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON * PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN ARE EXPECTED FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY.

THE HEAVIEST RAINS WILL BE BETWEEN MIDNIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT AND NOON ON SATURDAY. STORM TOTAL RAINFALL BY LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON WILL LIKELY AVERAGE FROM 3 TO 4 INCHES. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE.

* RAPID RISES IN CREEKS AND STREAMS ARE EXPECTED.

LOW WATER CROSSINGS MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE.

LOOK FOR FLOOD PRONE AREAS TO BECOME INUNDATED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING.

FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

...STRONG GUSTY SOUTH WINDS THIS AFTERNOON...

EXPECT SOUTHERN WINDS TO INCREASE TODAY, WITH SOME GUSTS BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MPH THIS AFTERNOON.

WINDS WERE ALREADY GUSTING TO 35 MPH AT MARION, ILLINOIS LATE THIS MORNING.

THE GUSTY WINDS WILL AFFECT THE HANDLING OF VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND OTHER ELEVATED SECTIONS OF ROADWAY EXPOSED TO THE WIND.

SOME LOOSE OBJECTS SUCH AS GARBAGE CANS MAY BE BLOWN AROUND.

THE WIND WILL DIMINISH BY EARLY THIS EVENING, HOWEVER IT WILL BE A BREEZY NIGHT.

...WINTRY PRECIPITATION AND HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE

.... RAIN AND SNOW WILL SPREAD INTO THE AREA SUNDAY AFTERNOON WITH SOME MINOR SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ALONG THE I-64 CORRIDOR IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. SUNDAY NIGHT THE PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE OVER TO FREEZING RAIN NORTH OF A LINE FROM VAN BUREN MISSOURI TO MARION ILLINOIS, TO PRINCETON INDIANA. SOUTH OF THAT LINE IT WILL BE RAIN WITH A FEW RUMBLES OF THUNDER. TEMPERATURES, HOWEVER, WILL WARM DURING THE NIGHT AND CHANGE THE FREEZING RAIN TO JUST RAIN EARLY MONDAY MORNING ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA. COLD AIR RETURNS MONDAY NIGHT BRINGING A CHANCE OF FREEZING RAIN AND SNOW AS THE SYSTEM DEPARTS THE AREA. MONDAY NIGHT ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW AND ICE ARE EXPECTED TO BE MINOR AT THIS POINT. HEAVY RAINFALL IS LIKELY ALONG A LINE FROM MAYFIELD KENTUCKY TO CENTRAL CITY KENTUCKY SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. AMOUNTS OF 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THAT AREA BEFORE THE RAIN ENDS EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. SOME TRAVEL ISSUES ARE POSSIBLE BOTH SUNDAY AND MONDAY NIGHTS ACROSS THE AREA.

...BITTER COLD WIND CHILLS THIS MORNING ALONG WITH SLICK ROADS

... YESTERDAY'S SNOW COMBINED WITH BITTER COLD EARLY TODAY MEANS MANY ROADS ACROSS THE REGION WILL REMAIN SLICK AND HAZARDOUS FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE.

THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS CLOSINGS AND EVENT CANCELLATIONS ACROSS THE AREA.

SOME IMPROVEMENT IS EXPECTED THROUGH THE DAY. DESPITE SUB FREEZING TEMPERATURES, SUNSHINE AND TREATMENT ON SOME ROADS WILL HELP MELT AND, OR EVAPORATE THE SNOW AND ICE. WIND CHILLS THIS MORNING WILL RANGE FROM THE SINGLE DIGITS TO JUST BELOW ZERO. BY AFTERNOON, THE WINDS WILL DIMINISH.

HOWEVER, HIGHS WILL ONLY REACH THE LOWER TO UPPER 20S, WITH WIND CHILLS STILL 10 TO 20 DEGREES.
