Free Public Wifi Now Available in Downtown Cape Girardeau
October 03rd 2018 by Dee Loflin

A public-private partnership between the City of Cape Girardeau and the Marquette Tech District Foundation led to another awesome way to connect in Cape: Free downtown Wi-Fi. Public internet access is available in the downtown area on Broadway, Main and Spanish streets.
The City and Tech District started working on it together in 2016. The District wanted access to the City’s fiber to connect endpoints of their private network. In return, the District would offer free Wi-Fi to the public. Both parties felt that sharing the fiber network would ultimately benefit everyone.
"The Marquette Tech District Foundation activated free Downtown Wi-Fi in 2017," said Stacy Dohogne Lane, Community Director for Codefi and the Marquette Tech District Foundation. "Part of our mission is to provide increased and efficient internet, network and technology and connectivity and access to residents, businesses, customers and visitors of downtown Cape Girardeau. The free, downtown Wi-Fi absolutely helps us carry out that mission."
Plans to expand the Wi-Fi’s reach are still developing, but for now both visitors and residents can more fully engage with their online community while out and about in downtown Cape. Whether that’s using Facebook to check in at their favorite restaurant or Instagramming the perfect selfie with downtown’s famous clock, connecting with Cape Girardeau has never been easier.

Stars & Stripes Annual Sponsorship Drive
June 25th 2018 by Dee Loflin

It is time for the annual sponsorship drive for the year 2018. We hope you can take a moment to read our request and respond. If you have donated this calendar year we appreciate your support and thank you again for your donation.
The Stars and Stripes Museum/Library is more than a display of military and newspaper artifacts. It is unique among the world's museums. We have over 7000 square feet of attractive multimedia exhibits, where visitors can see American military history from a different perspective. We have free admission and free tours.
On display is an original issue of the 1861 Civil War Stars and Stripes newspaper (only 4 known to exist). The Stars and Stripes Museum/Library is located in Bloomfield, MO which is designated as the official birthplace of the Stars and Stripes by the US Department of Defense. Through exhibits and programs the museum highlights the history of Stars and Stripes from it's very first issue which was printed by Union troops in November 1861, through the wars of the 20th century and into the modern era.
We provide the community with research services and support, special events including lectures on historical topics and our Liberty Days living history timeline during the month of October. During this time we are host to over 1,000 middle and high school students from local schools in the counties of Stoddard, Scott, Mississippi, Dunklin and New Madrid, Cape Girardeau , and Butler Counties.
Without the support of our dedicated sponsors, the museum would not be where it is today. As a newspaper written"for soldiers, by soldiers," the Stars and Stripes offers a unique and important view of some of the most pivotal moments in modern history. It provides the military personell at war with support and often times a much needed respite from the devastating environment they are placed in.
Please help us to continue to share history with future generations. We are a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt organization so your donation is tax deductible.
Sincerely
Dr. Lily Santoro
President
