Dexter, Missouri - Stoddard County Nutrition Center lunch menu for Monday, January 22nd - January 26, 2018

The Dexter Senior Center is located at 23 W. Stoddard St. in historic downtown Dexter.

You don't have to be a senior to eat.  They serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and the cost is $3.50 for seniors and $5.50 for non-seniors.  Suggested age for seniors is 60+.

Monday - Pork chops, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, bread sticks, and Mandarin orange fluff.

Tuesday - Roast, potatoes, carrots, roll and chocolate cake.

Wednesday - Ham and cheese casserole, baked potato broccoli, cottage cheese, and pears.

Thursday - Chicken and dumplings, peas, slaw, roll, and pumpkin custard.

Friday - Baked fish or catfish, cooked cabbage, brown beans, hushpuppies, and carrot cake.

Local VFW Donates to Dexter Police Department

Dexter, Missouri - The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) presented a check in the amount of $600 to the Dexter Police Department on Friday, January 19, 2018.

The funds represent proceeds from the organization's 2017 "Back the Blue" fish fry.

Presenting the donation to Police Chief Sammy Stone are, at left, Quartermaster Terry Atchison, and at right, VFW Commander Robert Myers.

Nyers noted that the VFW is committed to presenting the donation annually to the local police department.

Team Hornets to Host Chili Supper Fundraiser Friday Night

Advance, Missouri - Team Hornets is a fundraising team who help those in our local community that have been diagnosed with cancer and are going through cancer treatments.

Team Hornets will host their Annual Chili Supper in the Advance elementary cafeteria on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

They will serve an "all you can eat" chili with dessert and drink for $6.00 for school age-adult and preschool children eat for free.

There will be a St. Louis Cardinal's Basket Raffle with 4 box seat tickets tickets and a Dooney & Bourke Cardinal purse.  Tickets are $10 each.

There are also two homemade afghans for raffle at $1.00 per ticket or 6 tickets for $5.00 as well as several silent auction items.

Tickets are available at the door.

Annual Library Fashion Show Planned

Dexter, Missouri - Friends of the Library will be sponsoring their Annual Fashion Show and Dinner on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elks Lodge on Two Mile Road in Dexter.

The theme for the 2018 Fashion Show will be "America the Beautiful."

Tickets are $25 each and may be purchased from Friends of the Library members or at Keller Public Library on Grant Street.

Ticket price includes a full dinner prepared by the Elks and the Fashion Show.  During the evening there will be several raffles and prizes for people to win.

Stoddard County Resource Meeting Minutes January 3, 2018

Dexter, Missouri - The Stoddard County Resource Meeting was held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Dexter Chamber of Commerce at 10:00 a.m.

Below are the minutes from that meeting.

Program: Ben Thatcher, Functional Leader of Sikeston Job Center; Lori Caldwell, Supervisor of Sikeston Job Center; James Colyer, Veteran’s Representative of Sikeston Job Center

Mr. Thatcher discussed the upcoming satellite job center that will be located inside the Dexter Public Keller Library. This is a pilot program to serve Dexter and the surrounding areas. Mr. Thatcher believes this will be a monthly or bimonthly event. 

Ms. Caldwell spoke about coming into the Job Center for multiple services such as: job seeking; employers writing their own job orders or with the assistance of the staff; connections to partnering staff; workshops being offered. Ms. Caldwell stated that Unilevel, located in Sikeston, has worked closely with Job Center staff and Probation and Parole Department to employ people that were otherwise not employable due to the previous job restrictions about certain felonies. 

Mr. Colyer spoke about the opportunities afforded to veterans that utilize the Job Center. He stated that when he comes into contact with the veteran, he helps with their personal needs and connects them to resources that help their present situation. 

Announcements/Upcoming Events: 

One Step Leadership meeting on January 23rd at 11 is with the Department of Labor to discuss how to cut down on layoffs. 

Fitness Challenge at Regional Healthcare Foundation is from January 10th- April 25th. You can contact them at 573-624-1607 for further instruction.

January 25th the Point-in-Time (PIT) homelessness count will be conducted in Stoddard County. This event occurs at night-time. Anyone that is aware of locations in Stoddard County that are frequented by homeless, please contact Becky McDonald at Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, 573-481-0659, before January 25th. 

February 10th at the Stoddard County Nutrition Center there will a Death by Chocolate event and it’s $10/ticket.

Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri has an Emergency Assistance Program that has been given a grant to assist with utilities in Stoddard County for those that qualify for the program. Funds have a tentative release date of April 2018; will know more in the coming months. 

Staff Openings: 

SEMO Healthnetwork is looking for a Marketing Director that will be housed in the Benton, MO, location. 

Other discussions: 

Sikeston Job Center currently has funding for adults that need to take the HiSet test. Regional Healthcare Foundation also offers free Adult Education Literacy classes and funding for HiSet testing. 

Three Rivers College is registering until January12th.
