8th Annual 5K Goblin Gallop for Bootheel Counseling Services
Sikeston, Missouri - Bootheel Counseling Services will host the 8th Annual Goblin Gallop 5k/1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

This is a rain or shine family event with the road course starting and stopping at the Bootheel Counseling Services office on 760 Plantation Blvd.

Packet/T-shirt Pick Up will be at 760 Plantation Blvd between 7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. with the races beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Awards are given to all top overall female and male finishers, and top female and male finishers in each category: 19 and under, 20 - 29 years of age, 30 - 39 years of age, 40 - 49 years of age, 50 - 59 years of age and 60 and over.  Prizes and awards will be given to 1 Mile Fun run/Walk for all ages and Best Male Costumes and Best Female Costumes.

Entry fee is $20 if you pre-register by Friday, October 13th with all participants pre-registered are guaranteed a t-shirt.  Race Day entry fee is $25 or $15 for One Mile Fun Run.

The proceeds from this event help BCS continue to provide mental health services at little to no cost to those in need in Scott, Mississippi, New Madrid, and Stoddard Counties.

Chili Luncheon to Benefit Funeral Expenses

Dexter, Missouri - There will be a Chili Luncheon on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post #59 located across from West Park in Dexter.

Proceeds will benefit funeral costs for the family of Amber Nicole Ball.

A donation of $5.00 per person is asked, however you can always donate more.

Chili, crackers, dessert and a drink all for $5.00 is a great way to raise money for the family.

The public is encouraged to attend! Special thanks to Harps Grocery Store and the American Legion for their generous donations.

Amber passed away on September 9, 2017 in Colorado at the age of 24 and was the daughter of Terry Wheeler and Terry Lynn Phillips.  She was a 2012 graduate of Dexter High School.

She was also a loving mother to two wonderful sons, Mason and Connor Ball.  Her sisters April DeBerry and Amanda Meyer survive as well and live in Dexter and Essex.

Dexter Fall Fest Pageant Set for October 14th

Dexter, Missouri - The annual Fall Fest Pageant is set for Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Dexter Depot/Welcome Center located at 24 W. S. Main St.

Pageant wear is preferred in all categories and there will be a queen and two attendants selected in each group.

Queens will receive a crown and a trophy.  Attendants will receive a trophy.

Pageants begin at 1:30 p.m. and will run in category order, with pageants running consecutively.

Categories are:

Baby Miss Fall Fest 0 - 11 months

Tiny Mr. Fall Fest (Boys) 0 - 3 years

Wee Miss Fall Fest 12-23 months

Tiny Miss Fall Fest 2 - 3 years

Little Miss Fall Fest 4 - 6 years

Little Mr. Fall Fest (Boys) 4 - 6 years

Petite Miss Fall Fest 7 - 9 years

Preteen Miss Fall Fest 10 - 12 years

Jr. Miss Fall Fest 13 - 15 years

Miss Fall Fest 16 - 21 years

Entry fees for Baby Miss, Tiny Mr., Wee Miss, Tiny Miss, Little Miss, Little Mr., Petite Miss, and Preteen Miss are $20 per entry.  Jr. Miss and Miss are $25.

Deadline to enter is Friday, October 13, 2017 at noon.

After the deadline, late entries will be accepted with an additional $5.00 charge.

Entry forms may be obtained from Peggy Barks (573) 624-3032, Alisha Trammell (573) 421-1407 or the Dexter Chamber of Commerce.  Please make checks payable to HDDA.  Entry forms may be dropped off at the Bunny Patch located at 1 North Walnut St. in Dexter.

Dexter, Missouri - The Historic Downtown Dexter Association (HDDA) will sponsor the Downtown Dexter Fall Fest on Saturday, October 14th from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Craft booths will be set up for you to view and food booths for you to indulge.  

Live Music will be located at the corner of Stoddard & Walnut Street beginning at 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Fall Fest Pageant will be held at the Dexter Depot/Welcome Center at 24 W. S. Main beginning at 1:30 p.m. Pageant wear is preferred in all categories.  A queen and two attendants will be slected in each group.  A separate article on the ShowMe Times will give specific details on the Fall Fest Pageant.

The 8th Annual Pie Eating Contest sponsored by Young Real Estate LLC will be held in front of The Bunny Patch at HIGH NOON!  

Country Fire Cloggers will perform at 11:00 a.m.

Chicken Scratch will be at 10:30 a.m. and is sponsored by Bank of Advance.

The Flamenco Guitarist will perform at 12:30 p.m. at the Welcome Center.

Run 4 Vaughn will race through downtown to the First Christian Church. Registration is at 9:00 a.m. with a starting time of 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church at 224 East Stoddard Street. Lunch will be served on the ground upon the return of the runners and walkers.

The Stoddard County Nutrition Center will hold their annual Quilt Exhibit during the festival.

Jarrell Sworn in as New Associate Judge

Stoddard County, Missouri - Brad Jarrell was sworn into office by Circuit Judge Rob Mayer on Friday, September 29, 2017 in the courtroom at the Justice Center as a new Associate Judge.

Jarrell was appointed by Gov. Eric Greitens to finish the term of Judge Steve Mitchell who retired in early September.

He used his grandfather's Bible for the ceremony which was attended by several friends and family.
