Bloomfield Chamber Celebrates Thank a Police Officer Day with Stoddard County Sheriff's Dept

Bloomfield, Missouri - National Thank a Police Officer Day is held annually and Mayor Bill Aslin has written a Proclamation to dedicate September 12th as our day to celebrate National Thank a Police Officer Day in Bloomfield, Missouri.

The Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce distributed homemade cookies to the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department for the officers to enjoy this week.

BRAVERY and heroism are not only character traits for police officers; rather they are job requirements.

Everyday, those who wear the BADGE put their lives on the line to keep the public safe.

Every time an officer is dispatched to an incident, they have no idea of the dangers that await them.

In America alone, more than 166 officers were killed in the line of duty last year with hundreds of others losing their lives worldwide.

The public has an opportunity to thank law enforcement officers for their work on National Thank a Police Officer Day.  Throughout the week please stop in and thank them for all they do.

The event has been organized by the Whole Truth Project – an organization set up to protect and serve those who protect and serve our communities. Though not an official holiday declared by the U.S. Government, it should be noted that our police force deserve to be recognized not just annually, but thanked daily for all they do for us.

If you would like to thank a police officer or show support please take the time this week to stop in and say thank you!  Thank you for risking your life each so we don't have to.  Thank you for being there for us day in and day out, night after night without hesitation or fear.

National Police Week is held annually in May.

Bloomfield Police Dept Relocates to New Building

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Police Department also held a special celebration following the Open House at the Bloomfield Public Library on Saturday, June 25th.

The police department has been housed at City Hall since a fire destroyed their old building in January 2014.

"You can imagine that we have been in very cramped quarters," commented Mayor Bill Aslin.  "We are now strategically located as we possibly can be in the city of Bloomfield.  We are just very pleased at how things have turned out."

It was Mayor Aslin who saw the potential in the new location.  The building is in walking distance of the sheriff's office and the Justice Center and only a few blocks from the Bloomfield Schools.  It is centrally located for all Bloomfield residents. The building was for sale and Aslin was the main force in arranging the sale to the city to house the police force.

"The building is a perfect fit for our police department," commented Police Chief Daniel Dew. "It is not as cramped as City Hall and it is very close to everything in town."

Dew overseas three other full-time officers and one part-time officer for Bloomfield.  The Police Department is located at 500 S. Prairie St.

Bloomfield Public Library Renovation Completed

Bloomfield Public Library Renovation Completed

Bloomfield, Missouri - Local businessman, Norman Harty, made a considerable donation of $125,000 to the Bloomfield Public Library for a major overall.  On Saturday, June 25th the Bloomfield Public Library was officially dedicated with an Open House that included Missouri Lt. Governor Peter Kinder giving the address.

The library was already full of material and well organized, but one had to go from room to room to find their reading materials.  Now there is plenty of room for their Children's Story Hour and Summer Reading Program with a open floor plan.  It just has that open feel along with the stained hard wood floors and stacks and stack of books.

There is now a newly designed work state for the librarian and eleven separate computer work stations.

Bloomfield Mayor Bill Aslin spoke to the guests first giving much credit to Librarian Linda Meyers for her contribution during the renovation project.  Jim Mayo, Stars & Stripes Museum and an expert on Stoddard county history gave a brief overview of the beginnings of the Bloomfield Public Library.

"Twelve women formed a book club and met every week," commented Mayo.  "and it all began in the early 1900s.  They called themselves The Round Dozen."

Peter Kinder spoke on the accomplishments of Mr. Harty.  "Many if not most of Norman Harty's good works have gone unheralded, without a ceremony as we see here today," Kinder said. "in the 35 years that I have known him, he has been extremely generous in many areas for many causes."

"He comes from good stock and people who looked you in the eye and dealt with you humbly and honestly," continued Kinder.  "His character is demonstrated in not only his business dealings, but in his lifetime works. He is repeatedly helped his fellow man."

Harty followed Kinder in a brief address with these words, "Bloomfield has a very proactive Library Board and saw this renovation to completion.  I thank Mr. Mayo for working behind the scenes and I think contractor Jim Gingerich for his work as well."  Harty had a vision to better the community of Bloomfield and through his generosity he was able to fund this project. He ended with, "It is never too late to further educate yourself."

Congratulations to the Bloomfield Public Library.  If you haven't had a chance to see their new furnishings, shelving, floors, and computer stations stop by at 200 W. Seneca.
