Bloomfield Fall Fest Slated for Friday and Saturday

Bloomfield, Missouri - The 2015 Fall Festival is slated for Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th beginning with a parade at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening.  The festival will feature several food vendors, and arts and crafts booths.  The event is sponsored by the Bloomfield Lions Club and the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce.

A full slate of activities will be at the Bloomfield City Park on Saturday along with the carnival scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th thru Saturday, October 17th.  Armband nights are Tuesday and Thursday and a youth ministry will be held on Wednesday night at the park.

The parade theme will be "Remembering the Past" and will run on School Street and will go downtown and then south on Prairie Street to the Bloomfield City Park.  If you would like to enter a float, vehicle or band please contact Toni Hill at (573) 568-4564.

The Miss Bloomfield pageants including Little Miss, Little Mister, Petite Miss, Junior Miss and Miss Bloomfield will be held on Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The pageants are open to Bloomfield residents only.  Registration deadline is Wednesday, October 14th and the cost is $15.00.  If you register late an additional $5.00 will be added to the fee.  Miss Bloomfield contestants will wear formal attire; all others will wear dress clothes.

The Fall Fest pageants will be held on Saturday, October 17th beginning at 1:00 p.m. and are open to anyone zero months to 5th grade.  There are several age groups.  All contestants wear casual or play clothes and the fee is $10.00.  Registration begins at noon prior to the pageant.  For more information about the Fall Fest pageants contact Brenda Pruitt (573) 568-3393 after 6:00 p.m.  The Bloomfield Women’s Club also sponsors this pageant.

There will be an Evans Pottery display as well as a Quilt Show beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.  Both displays will be at the Barnett Cabin in the city park.

Saturday afternoon Bloomfield’s Got Talent will be held at 4:30 p.m.  This unique talent show will feature the best of the best in the area and is sponsored by Bloomfield Jr. Beta Club.  Registration is at 4:00 p.m. however anyone may pre-register by contacting Heather Mayo at Bloomfield Schools.  There is a $10.00 entry fee.

There will also be live music on the main stage throughout the Fall Fest.  A $5.00 parking fee will be charged at the park which includes a ticket to attend the Stars & Stripes Museum “Welcome Home Reflections of History 1860 – Present”.  The Sixth Corp Living History Group of St. Louis will be on hand representing various wars in which military personnel read The Stars and Stripes.  Uniform, equipment and weapons demonstration including a flame thrower will be available for people to see.  Historian Richard Ford will discuss the African American experience during WWII and the Missouri State Guard during WWII.  The event will be held between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Stars and Stripes Museum.

Dexter Fall Festival Scheduled for Saturday
Dexter, Missouri - The annual Fall Festival held in downtown Dexter is slated for Saturday, October 10th with several events.

The Festival is held each October on Stoddard Street and will feature more than 50 booths of crafts, food, and exhibits to officially welcome fall to Dexter.

Some of the featured events are:

* Annual Pie Eating Contest sponsored by Young Real Estate LLC at NOON in front of the Bunny Patch.

* Evans Pottery display at the old Dexter railroad depot which is now the official Welcome Center.  It begins at 9 a.m.

*  Fall Festival Pageants has been moved to the Dexter High School auditorium beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The pageants will include contests from birth to 21 years of age.  Deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. on Friday, October 9th.  Forms are available at the Bunny Patch.

*  Pumpkin crafts for children

*  Live music at Stoddard and Locust Streets will include Bluegrass Review at 9:30 a.m., Louisiana Fog at 11:30 a.m. and Deja Vu at 1:30 p.m.

* Quilt Exhibit at the Nutrition Center located on Stoddard Street.  They also have a quilt raffle of a beautiful hand-crafted quilt.

Rotary Club Will Host Food Drive at Harps

Dexter, Missouri - The Rotary Club in Dexter is asking for donations of non-perishable foods.  They will host a Food Drive at Harps in downtown Dexter on Saturday, October 10th from 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m.

All donations will got o the Stoddard County Gospel Mission.  According to Kim Slavings, Director of the Mission, "We are in need of non-perishable foods such as peanut butter, spaghetti, canned vegetables, canned fruit, cereal, rice beans, boxed drinks, soups, crackers, boxed cornbread, Ramen, mac&cheese, and canned tuna."

All donations will go to the Stoddard County Gospel Mission to help those in need in Stoddard County.

 The Rotary Club holds several community dinners, works a food booth at the Stoddard County Fair, hosts numerous blood drives, and an annual 4 Person Golf Scramble in the summer to raise money for many local groups.  Their motto is Service Above Self and they work hard all year long to give to many area people who are less fortunate.

The Dexter Rotary Club meets weekly for breakfast or lunch and is currently looking for new members.  If you are interested in becoming a member contact Mr. Jack Rodgers at 573-624-5762 or jrod63841@yahoo.com or Dee Loflin at 573-614-4804. 

Their motto is Service Above Self!

The Dexter Rotary Club also sponsors a student led group, Interact, and any Stoddard County high school student is eligible to join.  They meet once per month on the first Sunday.

Jeff Payne Wins AR-15 from American Legion Raffle
Dexter, Missouri - During the Stoddard County Fair, the Kenady-Hanks American Legion Post #59 sold raffle tickets for an AR-15 to raise money for their local organization.

Jeff Payne of Bernie, Missouri won the drawing.
