Dexter School Board Meeting Minutes from May 21, 2018 Released Today
Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Public School Board met on May 21, 2018 at a regularly scheduled board meeting.  Below are the minutes from that meeting.

Regular Board Meeting Notes
May 21, 2018
6:00 PM

1,2,3.   Call to Order/Roll Call/Pledge  The Board President announced the meeting is to begin, ascertains the attendance status of all board members with all members being present.  He then leads in the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance. 

4.  Consent Agenda:   The consent agenda was approved. 

5.  Public Comments:   There were no public comments.

6.  Old Business: None at this time. 

7.  New Business: 
A.  The board approved the chromebook purchase to SHI for 1 to 1 chromebooks at the Middle School.
B.  The board approved the purchase of AimsWeb Plus as a universal screener to be utilized for dyslexia screenings.
C.  The board tabled the approval of the Southwest Elementary handbook.
D.  The board tabled the approval of the Central Elementary handbook.
E.   The board tabled the approval of the Middle School handbook.
F.   The board tabled the approval of the High School handbook.
    
8.  Discussion Items:         
     B.  Mr. Counts presented the nurses report prepared by Mrs. Lynn Averett.      
     C.  Mrs. Dewitt, Mr. Kruse and Mrs. Dowdy were present and gave their building reports to the board.  Mr. Counts presented the Central Elementary board report.
     D.  Mr. Counts gave the superintendent's report.  
     E.  The next board meeting was set for June 28, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. 
  
In Closed Session:
    1.  The board approved the employment of the following substitute teachers for the 2018-19 school year:

        Thomas Zych
        Josie Pijanowski
        
2.  The board approved the following resignation letter effective at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 school year (unless noted):

3.  The board approved the employment of the following HS Online Learning Teacher for the 18-19 school year:

    Marc Thrower

4.   The board approved the employment of the following HS KSIP Teacher for the 18-19 school year:

    Kristi Boles

5.  The board approved the employment of the following Paraprofessionals for the 18-19 school year:

    Drew Pixley
    Shelley Fisher-Dille
    
6.  The board approved the employment of the following full time Bus Aide for the 18-19 school year:

7.  The board approved the following extra duty stipends.
Jamie Sepulvado - HS Drama 3%
Lloyd Hyten and Jordan Noyes will split the freshman basketball stipend 3.5% each.        
            
8. The board discussed the Network Administrator Position.

9.  The board approved a 1.8 index for the Director of Special Services due to the addition of increased responsibilities for the 2018-2019 school year.

10.  The board approved the employment of the following HS Science Teacher for the 18-19 school year:

11.  The board approved the following HS Assistant Football Coach for the 2018-19 school year.

Brandon Tanksley

12.   The board approved the following extra duty position for 2018-19.

Dexter, Missouri - Central Elementary School announced their 2018 4th Quarter Honor Roll students for 5th grade.  Students must maintain a B average to be on the Honor Roll each quarter.

Making the honor roll is not as easy as one might think.  Central Elementary students who are high achievers acquire and develop excellent study habits and skills, especially in time management.  

Successful, lifelong learners set aside a time and a space every day to do their homework. Student who can manage their daily workload have a better chance of attaining academic success.

McKuin Named to President's List at Williams Baptist College
Williams Baptist University has released the names of students on the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the 2018 spring semester.  The President’s List includes those full-time students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average, while the Dean’s List is comprised of those with at least a 3.5 GPA.

Williams is a Christian, liberal arts university in Walnut Ridge.  The spring semester was its last to operate as Williams Baptist College, as the school’s name is changing to Williams Baptist University this summer.

Melanie McKuin, Dexter graduate, earned a spot on the President’s List.  She achieved a 4.0 GPA for the Spring Semester.

Melanie McKuin is the daughter of Barry and Kimmy McKuin.

She played basketball all 4 years of high school and ran track her freshman and sophomore years.

Melanie was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Foreign Language Club, Future Teachers of America, Dexter Honor Society, and was in the Top 10% of her class.

She was also voted 2016 Winter Homecoming Queen.

She was a member of the All-State Girls Basketball Team, First Team All-District Girls Basketball Team, SEMO All Conference Girls Basketball Team, SEMO Conference Player of the Year and Standard Democrat Player of the Year during her junior year as a Bearcat!  She was a McDonalds' Shootout All-Tournament Team member and Lady Royals Christmas Classic All-Tournament Team team member for both her junior and senior years.

Melanie is playing basketball and majoring in pre-pharmacy at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.

Williams Baptist College is a four-year, Christian, liberal arts college. Williams is known for its academic excellence and personal attention, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 14-to-1, as well as its warm, Christ-centered environment. There are over 500 students on WBC’s main campus at Walnut Ridge, Ark., and a total enrollment of about 600. Most students live in on-campus residence halls and apartments.
