Tabitha Jones Awarded Scholarship to SEMO

Bloomfield, Missouri - Tabitha Jones, a 2016 graduate of Bloomfield High School, was awarded the University Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri for the 2016 - 2017 academic year.

Jones is the daughter of Jolene and Byron Bolin of Bloomfield.

Congratulations Tabitha!

Bloomfield School Board Adds 8th Hour and Hires Coaching Staff

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield School board met on Monday, June 20, 2016.

The board approved resurfacing the high school gym parking lot, purchasing of a van, adding an 8th hour to the high school and middle school, and changes in the 2016-2017 handbook.

The biggest adjustment will be adding the 8th hour.  Class periods will now be 46 minutes in length with the first period being 48 minutes.  Other changes in the handbook are students will have to have some type of health insurance to go on school trips, student meal prices, definition of “appropriate shorts” length, and a change in the form used by parents to allow corporal punishment.  The Elementary Handbook also added a Scholar Leadership Award.

In Executive Session the Bloomfield School Board approved the resignation of Debbie Stogsdill from an elementary teaching position, the hiring of Sabra Mayberry for an elementary teaching position and the hiring of Brandon Crook for the ISS/ALS teaching position.

Also several extra curricular positions were filled:

Brandon Crook for Athletic Director and BHS boys head basketball coach and BMS boys basketball coach; Jason Karnes at Tournament Director, Louis Bell as BHS girls head basketball coach and BMS girls basketball coach; Taylor Fields as BHS assistant girls basketball coach and BMS assistant girls basketball coach; Sarah Moore as elementary girls basketball; Matt Foster for BHS assistant fall and spring baseball coach; Charlotte Phillips for BHS girls softball coach, Sabrina Skaggs for BHS assistant girls softball coach; Travis Westbrook as assistant BHS golf coach, Matthew Kohm as assistant cross country coach and Heather Mayo as prom coordinator.

Dexter School Board Minutes of Executive Session

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter School Board met in a Special Closed Board Meeting in Executive Session on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at noon.  Below are the minutes from that meeting.

In Executive Session: 

The Board employed William Andrews as Head Bus Mechanic.


The Board accepted a letter of resignation from High School Social Studies / Asst. MS Boys Basketball Coach Lucas McKinnis.

Discussion was held on the Assistant Superintendent Job opening. 

The decision was made to re-open the position during the 2016-17 school year so that an Assistant Superintendent can be in place for 2017-18.

Mr. Wood, Superintendent, stated: “This option was discussed from the beginning, I knew it would be very tough getting a list of qualified applicants with the amount of experience necessary for this job with it being so late in the year.  I feel it’s the best decision in our next step to fill this crucial job with the right person”.

Kindergarten Students Earn Positive Office Referrals

Dexter, Missouri - Southwest Elementary honors Kindergarten students Gracie Edwards, Myra Wright, Dixie Willis, Kaylin Myers, Drake Carmode, Ashton Holden, Lucas Woods, Bryson Barnes, Leah Smith, and Bella Lacy with the Positive Office Referral certificate.

This award is presented to students who consistently show the 3R's RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and READY TO LEARN at Southwest Elementary in Dexter.

Megan Bush Baber Graduates From Medical School

Blacksburg, Virginia - Megan Bush Baber recently graduated from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Megan is formerly from Dexter and was a Class of 2005 Dexter High School graduate.  She graduated from Harding University, in Searcy, Arkansas in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.  She then worked in Dexter for Dr. Robert Jibben and Nurse Practitioner, Laurie Jibben.

She later taught algebra at Kennett High School before choosing to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a physician.  She will begin her pediatrics residency on June 20th at UAMS/Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Megan is the daughter of Jeff and Cindy Bush formerly of Dexter, but now reside in Phoenix, Arizona.  She and her husband, Randall, reside in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Congratulations Megan!  Dexter proud!
