Stephanie Monroe has been the Beta Club sponsor at Richland High School for several years now and Beta has been a huge part of Richland for many years prior. Beta Club is an organization that builds off of students and their academic abilities to promote ideals of academic achievement, character, service, and leadership among high school students all over America.
Next Tuesday, the club will be holding their annual Beta Chili Supper on Tuesday, December 4th. December 4th is also the Richland Basketball Team’s first home game against the Campbell Camels so you can eat dinner and then see an exciting game and enjoy a performance by Amber Duley’s Pep Band during halftime.
This is one of the larger fundraisers that the club holds so they can raise money to go to State Convention in March at Branson. The club has proved their commitment and dedication to this club and has been holding office at the State Convention for the past couple of years. This year, they will have the retiring State Secretary, Jessica Shidler, who placed last year with their “Without a Shadow of a Doubt” skit. Richland is proud to hold one of the three State offices along with Malden and Bloomfield.
The members are currently raising money for junior Kannon Qualls, as he trains and prepares himself to conquer the stage and run for office at State Convention. Aside from holding office, Beta offers many other opportunities for kids with all different talents. Most of the students are entered in academics such as English, Math, Science, History, or Quiz Bowl while others focus on painting, drawing, or special talents. This year, the special talent group of four students will be singing Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye. If the club places in any of these categories at State Convention, they will start preparing for Nationals which is held in Mobile, Alabama.

This is Beta’s third fundraiser this year as they prepare to head for Branson in the spring and hopefully Mobile in the summer but they still need all the support they can get. The Chili Supper will be held in Richland’s cafeteria which is right down the hall from the gymnasium. Doors open at 4:30 and they close at 6:30 so that you will still be able to enjoy the game. All Beta Club members are currently selling Chili Supper tickets that are $6 a piece but you can contact the Beta sponsor and art teacher, Stephanie Monroe, or visit the Richland High School Beta Club page on Facebook for more information or to purchase tickets.

The Dexter FFA will begin selling poinsettias on Monday, November 26th. This is a great thing to give to someone you always have a hard time shopping for around Christmas time. Who wouldn’t love a bright red, lovely poinsettia?
The members of the Dexter High School Greenhouse class have raised the poinsettias. The class visits the greenhouse daily to water the plants and make sure they are making the proper progress in their growth.
The poinsettias will be sold for eight dollars each. Anyone can buy one of these, just come by the AG department at Dexter High School or call 573-614-1030 for more information.
This is a great way to mark a few “hard-to-buy for” people off your Christmas list, or you could even buy a couple for yourself! Poinsettias are extra great around the holidays as they are seen around many Christmas decorations.
Shown in the photo above are Shelby Edwards and Autumn Lesley holding poinsettias in which they have grown through being in Ronnie Shipman’s greenhouse class.

ShowMe Times would like to encourage all our readers to get involved with our public schools.
The upcoming activities are posted weekly in hopes of encouraging more people to get involved in the academic and athletic growth of our school system.

Friday night, November 16th, was a busy night for Richland High School. Each year, the school holds Fall Festival, which is a night of many fundraisers and fun activities that the students, clubs, organizations, and classes get to participate in. This was a big year for the Fall Festival because it even included a Fall Dance and a scrimmage game played by the Richland Rebel basketball team.
The night started off with many fun-filled events like face painting and small games that were played by students of all ages. Many of the clubs had booths so they could raise money for trips or other things that the club planned on doing later in the year. The Beta Club held a ‘Bus Bash’ to raise money for their State Beta Convention that will take place in March at Branson. The members of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) sold wristbands for their revival trip to The Prophecy Summit which is also in Branson. FFA focused on selling their annual fruit baskets and held a raffle.
The scrimmage game drew a lot of basketball fans to the gym after they walked around and visited the booths. The game was split into two teams: the red team and the white team. The head coach, Matt Cline, thought that it was a good way to give the community a slight preview before the season opens in two weeks at the Oran Invitational Tournament where they will be playing the home team, Oran.
The game was split into two twenty minute halves so that each player on either the varsity or JV team would get a lot of practice and playing time. Both sides were neck and neck throughout the game but the white team stole the lead from the red team at halftime with a score of 40 to 34. It was definitely a game that kept the crowd on their feet. When the game officially ended, the white team took the win of 84 to 62. The fans and coaches were very pleased with the way the boys played and are looking forward to a great season that is quickly approaching.

After the game, the Fall Festival Pageant took place. The pageant was put on by Student Council and is a fairly large annual event. The event is judged by a panel of judges instead of by the students. Each club and class enters a girl into the pageant, so there are many students that got to participate.
This year, the Retiring Queen, junior Kayla Uhles, handed the 2nd runner up sash to junior Mackenzie Williams and the 1st runner up sash to sophomore Whitney Teeters. The Fall Festival Queen title was given to senior Jessica Shidler. Jessica is the Missouri State Beta Secretary and is involved in various clubs and organizations throughout the school, including FCA, FBLA, Beta Club, band, and FCCLA.
We would like to congratulate all the candidates in the Fall Pageant, the participants and coaches in the basketball scrimmage, and Amber Duley, who put on the Fall Dance afterwards. It was an overall fun and enjoyable event that is something to look forward to next year.

Every year the Dexter FFA Chapter provides a BBQ for all active FFA members, administration, faculty, and staff of Dexter High School.
This year’s annual first semester BBQ was on Friday, November 16th. The FFA BBQ is ongoing through the lunch shifts and students who are active in FFA are welcome to drop by during their lunch shift.
In the photo to the left, some FFA students are shown enjoying the bbq out in the agriculture area of the school.
The Dexter FFA Chapter would like to thank Leonard and Jacob Madigan for doing the grilling at Friday’s event. The Chapter would also like to thank Tyson for once again providing the chicken breasts for the bbq.
This is an annual event that is always a good time for anyone involved in the FFA club, and it is also enjoyed by all the staff at Dexter High School.
Shown in the photo below is Leonard and Jacob Madigan who took the job of grilling for Friday's event.
