Richland's Fall Festival
November 19th 2012 by Beth Farrah
Richland's Fall Festival

Friday night, November 16th, was a busy night for Richland High School. Each year, the school holds Fall Festival, which is a night of many fundraisers and fun activities that the students, clubs, organizations, and classes get to participate in. This was a big year for the Fall Festival because it even included a Fall Dance and a scrimmage game played by the Richland Rebel basketball team.

The night started off with many fun-filled events like face painting and small games that were played by students of all ages. Many of the clubs had booths so they could raise money for trips or other things that the club planned on doing later in the year. The Beta Club held a ‘Bus Bash’ to raise money for their State Beta Convention that will take place in March at Branson. The members of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) sold wristbands for their revival trip to The Prophecy Summit which is also in Branson. FFA focused on selling their annual fruit baskets and held a raffle.

The scrimmage game drew a lot of basketball fans to the gym after they walked around and visited the booths. The game was split into two teams: the red team and the white team. The head coach, Matt Cline, thought that it was a good way to give the community a slight preview before the season opens in two weeks at the Oran Invitational Tournament where they will be playing the home team, Oran.

The game was split into two twenty minute halves so that each player on either the varsity or JV team would get a lot of practice and playing time. Both sides were neck and neck throughout the game but the white team stole the lead from the red team at halftime with a score of 40 to 34. It was definitely a game that kept the crowd on their feet. When the game officially ended, the white team took the win of 84 to 62. The fans and coaches were very pleased with the way the boys played and are looking forward to a great season that is quickly approaching.

After the game, the Fall Festival Pageant took place. The pageant was put on by Student Council and is a fairly large annual event. The event is judged by a panel of judges instead of by the students. Each club and class enters a girl into the pageant, so there are many students that got to participate.

This year, the Retiring Queen, junior Kayla Uhles, handed the 2nd runner up sash to junior Mackenzie Williams and the 1st runner up sash to sophomore Whitney Teeters. The Fall Festival Queen title was given to senior Jessica Shidler. Jessica is the Missouri State Beta Secretary and is involved in various clubs and organizations throughout the school, including FCA, FBLA, Beta Club, band, and FCCLA.

We would like to congratulate all the candidates in the Fall Pageant, the participants and coaches in the basketball scrimmage, and Amber Duley, who put on the Fall Dance afterwards. It was an overall fun and enjoyable event that is something to look forward to next year.

Dexter FFA Holds BBQ
Written by
Jessica Snider, SMT Writer

Every year the Dexter FFA Chapter provides a BBQ for all active FFA members, administration, faculty, and staff of Dexter High School.

This year’s annual first semester BBQ was on Friday, November 16th. The FFA BBQ is ongoing through the lunch shifts and students who are active in FFA are welcome to drop by during their lunch shift.

In the photo to the left, some FFA students are shown enjoying the bbq out in the agriculture area of the school.

The Dexter FFA Chapter would like to thank Leonard and Jacob Madigan for doing the grilling at Friday’s event. The Chapter would also like to thank Tyson for once again providing the chicken breasts for the bbq.

This is an annual event that is always a good time for anyone involved in the FFA club, and it is also enjoyed by all the staff at Dexter High School.

Shown in the photo below is Leonard and Jacob Madigan who took the job of grilling for Friday's event.
