Kealea Powell Commits to Play Volleyball at Crowley's Ridge College

Bernie High School senior, Kealea Powell signed to play volleyball at Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould, Arkansas.

"We are so proud of you, Kealea, and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll accomplish at the collegiate level," commented head volleyball coach Rachel Vernon, "Way to represent!"

Crowley's Ridge College is a private four year church affiliated, but autonomous co-educational liberal arts college designed to help students grow closer to God while pursuing a college degree with our talented and caring faculty and staff who promote career readiness, lifelong friendships, and a rewarding life.

Mules Shutout Hornets 15-Zip

The Bernie Mules shut out the Holcomb Hornets in the home opener on Friday evening.  The Mules scored nine runs in the third inning and went on to defeat the Hornets 15-0.

Brayden Vaughn drew a walk, scoring one run, Taylor Stanfield hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Cayden Hunt was s struck by a pitch , driving in a run, Alex Lester grounded out, scoring one run, Jonah Copeland singled, scoring one run, Cane Hobgood singled, scoring one run, Vaughn then doubled, scoring two runs, and finally Cody Massey singled, scoring one run. What an inning scoring nine runs.

In the first inning Massey doubled, Stanfield singled, and Lester walked, each scoring one run.

Hobgood earned the win on the mound.  The right-handed pitcher allowed only one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking four.   Stephen Bradshaw took the loss for the Hornets.  the hurler ent one and one-third innings, surrendering four runs on two hits, striking out non and walking one.

Bladyn Joiner stepped on the hill first for Holcomb. The starter gave up two hits and three runs (two earned) over two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking three.

Stanfield, Vaughn, and Massey each collected two hits for the Mules.  Vaughn earned a home run on a pop fly to left field.  Stanfield and Vaughn each drove in three runs.  Hobgood led with two walks.  Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amazing eight walks for the game.

Vaughn, Hobgood, and Josiah Copeland stole nine bases altogether.  No errors were committed by the Mules.  The Mules cored three runs in the first, three in the second and nine in the third inning to finish the game.  

The Bernie Mules travel to Risco on Tuesday, September 3rd.  First pitch is at 4:30 p.m.

The 2024 Class 2, District 1 Baseball Tournament bracket and seeds announced.  All games will be played at Senath-Hornersville High School beginning Thursday, May 9, 2024.

Portageville Bulldogs earned the #1 seed followed by #2 Senate-Hornersville, #3 Bernie, #4 Campbell, #5 Holcomb, and #6 South Pemiscot.

Portageville has a record of 25-6, Senath-Hornersville (11-6), Bernie (15-9), Campbell (10-8), Holcomb (11-10), and South Pemiscot's record is (3-15) at time of publication.

Round 1 - Thursday, May 9th

Portageville and Senath will have a bye in the fist round

2:00 p.m. #3 Bernie vs #6 South Pemiscot

4:00 p.m. #4 Campbell vs #5 Holcomb

Semifinals - Friday, May 10th

11:00 a.m. #1 Portageville vs winner of Campbell/Holcomb game

1:00 p.m. #2 Senath-Hornersville vs winner of Bernie/South Pemiscot game

Championship will be on Monday, May 13th at 4:00 p.m. in Senath.

The 2024 SCAA Baseball Tournament seeds and and bracket have been released.

Bernie earned the #1 seed followed by #2 Bell City, #3 Dexter, #4 Bloomfield, #5 Woodland, #6 Puxico, #7 Advance, and #8 Richland.

First round of games will be hosted by Bernie High School and Bell City High School and begin on Monday, April 15th.

Location: Bernie High School, Monday, April 15th

4:30 p.m. Bernie vs Richland

6:30 p.m. Bloomfield vs Woodland

Location: Bell City High School, Monday, April 15th

4:30 p.m. Bell City vs Advance

6:30 p.m. Dexter vs Puxico

Tuesday, April 16th semifinal games will be held at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Bernie High School.

3rd Place game will be on Wednesday, April 17th at 4:30 p.m. at Bernie and the Championship game will be at 6:30 p.m. at Bernie High School.
