The girls varsity team will head to the Kennett Invitational Tournament on Friday, September 6th.

The Dexter Lady 'Cats volleyball team opened their season with a win on Tuesday night taking down Arcadia Valley 25-17, 25-23, 25-14 at the Bearcat Event Center.
Kate Nichols led the team with 10 digs and 9 kills and served two aces for the Bearcats. Calie White, Karis Kennedy and Mauriona Menley each had three aces. Liz Bolin had four blocks (three solo). Kennedy also had two block. Avery Riley had seven digs.
Dexter (1-0) will be back in action on Thursday when'd they travel to Jackson to take on the Indians. They will be back home next week on Monday hosting Stony Lutheran and then on Tuesday hosting Cape Central.

The Dexter Cross Country Team traveled to Memphis to compete in the City Auto Memphis Twilight XC Classic 2024 on Saturday evening. The team finished 12th out of 41 teams. Their best finish at this meet.
"Saturday nights performance was a great first step," commented head Cross Country coach Josh Dowdy. "This should give the boys some confidence as we head into next week when we host some of our local schools. I am anxious to see where we stack up."
The only varsity girl on the team, Quincey McLaughlin, finished 215th in 30:25.10.
On the boys varsity team, Cameron Bell finished 33rd with a time of 17:11.00 followed by Ben Dowdy who placed 50th with a time of 17:31.78. Jaxon King finished 70th with a time of 18:04.66 Blake Lee finished in 92nd place with a time of 18:32.32.
Daniel Williams finished 140th with a time of 19:33.58. Gabe Proctor placed 20th with a time of 21:02.34. Peyton Ballance finished 279th with a time of 23:36.84.
"Immediately after the race, our upperclassmen mentioned that Daniel Williams was the highlight of the evening," stated Dowdy. "Anytime you have a group that celebrates the success of their teammates, especially in a sport where there is an individual component, tells me these boys truly grasp the team concept."
For Daniel, a freshman, to come out of the gate and finish around 19:30 was definitely a good showing. His finish helped the Bearcats finish with an average of 18:11, the lowest the 'Cats have ever done at the Memphis Twilight, even if it is by one second, it counts!
Blake Lee also had a great first meet with a personal best of 18:32. "Blake has come a long way in one year and there is no doubt with his work ethic he has many personal bests ahead of him," Dowdy said.
The Memphis Twilight performance was a great first step. "This should give the cross country team some confidence as we head into next week when we host some of our local schools," commented Dowdy. "I am anxious to see where we stack up!"
As a team Dexter finished 12th against a tremendous amount of talent at Memphis. Rock Bridge High School out of Columbia, Missouri finished first followed by West Plains High School, Martin Luther King HS, Providence Christian School, Tupelo HS, Madison Central HS, Franklin HS, Houston HS, Collierville HS, Arlington HS, and Oxford HS. These are the top 12 out of 41 teams who competed.
Come out Saturday, September 7th at Charles Bland Stadium as they host the Dexter Invitation Cross Country Meet at 9:30 a.m.

The Puxico Varsity Indians Baseball Team (0-1) fell to the Bell City Cubs (2-0) 5-4 on Tuesday at their home opener. The Cubs builts a 4-run lead in the sixth inning and then held off the Indians for the victory.
Bell City opened the scoring in the top of the third thanks to Dawson Loomes who doubled and scored one run. Blaine Scheible singled, scoring two runs.
Baylor Eftink earned the win for the Cubs. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking none. Jake Asher stepped on the hill firt for Bell City. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and four runs (two earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out three and walking two.
PJ Rickman took the loss for Puxico. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out two and walking no one. Mason Parsley stepped on the mound first. The left-handed pitcher gave up four hits and three runs over four and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three.
Waylon Powell led Puxico with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Powell, Parsley, Drake Armstrong, and Jagur Backus each collected one hit.
Blaine Scheible drove the middle of the linup, leading Bell City with two runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. The Cubs turned one double play in the game.
Bell City had two earrors to Puxico’s one error.
Puxico will paly at home on Thursday hosting
Leopold at 4:30 p.m.
Bell City will travel to Cooter on Wednesday. Game time at 4:30 p.m.

Six area teams are in the top 10 in their respective classes in the Missouri Media football rankings released Monday night.
Dexter was voted to be 9th in Class 3. They received 22 points in the voting.
