Bearcats Take a Loss on the Road to Cape Central

Bearcats Take a Loss on the Road to Cape Central

Cape Girardeau, Missouri – The Dexter Bearcats varsity baseball team experienced a 3-1 loss on the road at Cape Central Tuesday afternoon.

The Cape Central Tigers took a 3-0 lead after earning two runs in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth inning.

The Bearcats scored their only run in the top of the sixth inning.

Chase Hagerty earned the win for Cape Central.  Jason Mattison recorded the loss for Dexter.

I thought Jason did a great job today," commented Dexter coach Brian Becker.  "He didn't give up a hit until the 4th inning.  Runs were hard to come by today and that's a credit to how well both pitchers threw."

"We scored in the top of the 6th on a leadoff single by Colton Averett,"  continued Becker.

Jason Mattison then hit a slow roller which pulled the third baseman in.  No one covered third on the play and Colton was able to advance from first to third because their players were out of position.

"It was a heads up play by Colton to get into scoring position," stated Becker.  "He later scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Chandler Young."

Dexter defeated Doniphan 5-0 in their season opener, lost to Malden on the road 18-7 and won at home against Kennett 16-12.

Dexter (2-2) will return to action on Thursday when they host Neelyville.
