Ethan Stevens Finished 4th at State Wrestling Tournament

Columbia, Missouri – Ethan Steven, junior, at Dexter High School finished fourth at the 85th MSHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Columbia on Saturday.

Stevens lost by fall (1:12) to Reed Springs junior Broden Lemaster in a championship quarterfinal on Friday.  He went on to win by decision (6-4) against Owensville senior Christopher Dolles in a second-round wrestleback match late Friday.

On Saturday, Stevens won by decision (5-2) over Ste. Genevieve junior Wyatt Hahn in his third-round wrestleback match.  Stevens then lost to Lemaster by decision (8-3) in the 170 lb weight class.

Ethan Stevens finishes his season with a record of 35-2.

"Ethan had a very good season finishing with a 35-2 record.  Went into the State undefeated and lost to Jr. Broden Lemaster of Reeds Springs (38-3) twice, once in the quarterfinals matchup and then again in the 3rd/4th place match up," stated Dexter Wrestling Coach James Sneed.

"As the season progressed Ethan started to wrestle a little conservative, I don't know if it was the pressure of being undefeated or what, but when Ethan wrestles his match he is very hard to beat," continued Sneed.  "Ethan has great hips and a very good wizzer that makes it almost impossible to score on him.  Looking for him to take the next step as a Senior and be in the finals, I know that is his and my goal for him next year."
