Puxico Defeats Van Buren

Bloomfield, Missouri - Under the direction of head coach Jon Simpher and assistant coach Nate Wills, the Puxico Indians were ready for battle as they defeated the Bulldogs of Van Buren. 

The first quarter ended with only a one-point lead by the Indians.  Van Buren answered each basket with a bucket of their own.   Puxico had other plans; they repeatedly went to the basket and were able to gain on the Bulldogs.  By half time, they were leading 29 – 21.

Puxico’s Corey Pratt, Austin Teichman, and Zack Tucker each had game-high 12 points each.  Garrett Payne tallied 11 points.

Corey Pratt #15, a junior guard sunk two treys for Puxico and Seth Luttrull achieved one trey.

Puxico will play in the consolation game on Monday, December 30th as they take on the Saxony Lutheran Crusaders.  Game time 4:00 p.m. at the 57th Annual Bloomfield Christmas Tournament.

Bloomfield, Missouri – The Saxony Lutheran Crusaders under the direction of head coach Tim Winkler and assistant coach Adam Winkler have put together an extraordinary team this year. 

Leading for the Crusaders senior Jack Lake #45 tallied a game-high 29 points including two treys.  Three other Saxony players were in double digits.  Hunter Coe #35, a 5’ 9” senior recorded 14 points including 2 treys.  Ryan Palmer #13 contributed 11 along with Zach Beal #3 who tallied 10 points.

Ryan Palmer, a 6’1” junior guard for the Crusaders sank three treys.

Ryan Reeves #23 was the leading scorer for the Hornets putting 28 points on the board.  Ten of his twelve came from the charity stripe.   Bub Davis also contributed 14 points.

Ben Vance was the only Hornet to record a trey.

Bloomfield, Missouri – It looked like a different team out there on the court when the Dexter Bearcats went up against the Hayti Indians.  Hayti seeded #2 in the 57th Annual Bloomfield Christmas Tournament had already defeated Van Buren easily, but they had met their match when the Bearcats hit the floor! 

It was a close game in the first quarter with the Bearcats leading 20 – 15.  There was exciting in the bleachers and many Bearcat fans on their feet cheering.  At half Dexter was still leading the game, but by only a point, 31 – 31.  They needed to rally in the 3rd quarter to continue their chance to win this game.

Unfortunately for Dexter, Hayti dug their heels in and scored several unanswered points in the third quarter to overpower the Bearcats and lead by six going into the 4th quarter.  Final Score Dexter 57 Hayti 69

The Bearcats played with heart and determination and looked fantastic out on the floor. Win or lose this was the best performance of the year by the boys basketball team.  Way to go Bearcats!

Cole Renken ##33 finished with a game-high 19 points for Dexter.  D.J. Dowdy #11 and Ethan Flowers #24 each contributed 13 points with Flowers hitting three treys for the Bearcats.  Dowdy and Peyton Pollock #12 each had a trey.

Demetrius Luster led the Indians’ with a team-high 18 points including a trey.  Frankie Burden, Jr. recorded 17 points and Brandon Burden added 12 more.

Bernie Defeats Twin Rivers in Quarterfinal Action

Bloomfield, Missouri - The first eight minutes of the Bernie vs Twin Rivers game proved to be low scoring for both teams.  Bernie just didn’t seem to be meshing well with several turnovers. Ending the first quarter with a foul on Bernie.  The Twin Rivers were able to capitalize another two points at the charity stripe.  Twin Rivers 10 – 5 at the end of the first quarter.

Jake Wagner #5 hit a 3-pointer with just 2:26 left on the clock in the second quarter giving the Mules the lead 21 – 19.  Bubby Schwent then went to the line and hit a free throw increasing the lead by three.  That gave the Mules momentum as they scored another five points ending the first half 27 – 22.

Eric Ray scored a game-high 16 points for the Royals.  Nathan Watson contributed 11.

Bubby Schwent scored a game-high 19 points.  B.J. Jennings tallied 10 points for the Mules.  Jake Wagner hit two treys, Justin Stanfield and Devin Trammel both added one trey each.

Bloomfield, Missouri - South Pemiscot seeded #4 and Bloomfield seeded #12 were tied 8 all with just 20.4 seconds left on the clock in the first quarter.  The Wildcats were able to keep up the pace for the most part, but began trailing in the second quarter.  S. Pemiscot was just too much for Bloomfield and defeated them 65 – 43.

Jacob Trammell had 16 points and hit four treys for S. Pemiscot.  Anthony Primer contributed 15 points.  Torrance Shepard had one trey.

Bloomfield’s Tim Fox had a game-high 15 points.  Newell, Vandiver and Battles each added a trey.
