Floyd Eugene “Gene” Gaines, son of the late Floyd Eugene Gaines and Gladys Clark Wilburn, was born November 1, 1939, in Dexter, Missouri and departed this life June 2, 2024, at his home in Dexter at the age of 84 years.
Mr. Gaines worked for Coffey and Camp Lumberyard before working as a salesman for Busy Bee Lumber in Dexter, Missouri. He was a member of The United States National Guard, he attended the Lighthouse Christian Church in Dexter, and he was a former member of the Dexter Elks Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his family, walking at the park and doing yardwork.
On April 17, 1987, in Dexter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Susan Hatfield. Mrs. Gaines survives of their home in Dexter.
Along with his wife he is survived by four daughters, Gina (Robert) Slavings of Rogersville, Missouri, Shelly (Jim) Trout of Puxico, Missouri, Kristina Edwards of Dexter, Missouri and Trina Edwards of Dexter, Missouri; by his son, Robbie (Hanna) Edwards of Sikeston, Missouri; by his brother, Marlin Gaines of Sikeston, Missouri; by his sister, Pat Wills of Festus, Missouri; by five grandchildren, Stephanie (Allen) Farmer, Joshua (Zona) Gaines, Logan (Mikayla) Gaines, Jayden Edwards and Cameron Edwards; and by four great-grandchildren, Chloe Farmer, Sheldon Farmer, Kaydee Farmer and Isabella Farmer.
Other than by his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Maura Peters; by his great-grandson, Bryson Umfleet; and by his sister, Wanda Carwile.
Visitation will be held Wednesday June 5, 2024, at the Lighthouse Christian Church in Dexter, Missouri from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted Wednesday June 5, 2024, at the Lighthouse Christian Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev Tim Russell officiating. Interment will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
