Luella Layton, daughter of the late Arvil Cannon and Velma Snider Cannon, was born on August 4, 1924, in Essex, Missouri, and departed this life on September 18, 2023, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 99 years.
Mrs. Layton was a former bookkeeper for Brown Construction. She was a member of New Bethel Church in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.
On May 18, 1944, in Piggott, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to Harold “Bud” Layton. Mr. Layton preceded her in death on February 21, 2002.
She is survived by her son, Larry Layton and wife Donna of Dexter, Missouri; by her brother, Loy Cannon of Dexter, Missouri; by four sisters, Marcella Corlies and Norma Gibbons both of Dexter, Missouri; Helen Lane of Columbia, Missouri, and Jo Ann Smith of Texas; by her grandson, Jonathan Layton of Dexter, Missouri; and by four great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Raylee, Zoie, and Evie.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
