In Memory of Nellie Jean Thurman

Nellie Jean Thurman of Union, Missouri, daughter of the late Ira and Sophia Ann (Kelley) Avery was born on May 22, 1930, in Essex, Missouri, and passed from this life on January 26, 2023, in Hermann, Missouri, at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 4 days.   

Nellie was united in marriage to the love of her life Rubin Clayton Thurman on June, 12, 1947, in Gray Ridge, Missouri, and remained married until his passing on October 6, 2000.

 She was born and raised in the Essex/ Stoddard County area and moved to St. Louis in 1950.  She was member of the First Washington United Methodist Church.  Nellie loved to sew and cooking for her family.  She especially loved fishing with her husband. Nellie worked many years as a seamstress tailoring for companies like J.C. Penny, and Johns Tailoring and also made custom suits for many of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Nellie is survived by one son, Roy Clayton (Lory) Thurman of Union, Missouri; two granddaughters, Melissa (Rob) Schulze and Michelle (Corey) Kasmann; three great-grandchildren, Reese Shulze, Dallas Schulze and Wade Kasmann; many nieces and nephews as well as a host of family and friends.

 She was proceeded in death by two brothers, John Wesley and Ira Avery; five sisters, Gladys Dowdy, Mildred Moore, Nola Campbell, Mary Bizzell and Susie Smith. Also, by a niece, Rosalyn Coffey.

Visitation service will be Friday, February 3, 2023  from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the Service to follow at the Watkins And Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri, with Pastor Troy Merseal officiating.

Interment will follow at the Liberty Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, with Watkins and Sons Funeral of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Bobby Ray Lambert

Bobby Ray Lambert, known as Bud by his loved ones, son of the late George Lambert and Millie Carlene Hornbeck, was born on December 11, 1934, in Tiptonville, TN, and left this earth on January 25th, 2023, in Puxico, MO age of 88. 

Bobby was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He worked hard to provide for his family. He loved being outdoors, gardening, and being with his loved ones. From an early age, he farmed around Sikeston, MO, and later continued farming and working at Laclede Steel in Alton, IL. During the 1970s, he moved to Bloomfield, MO, with his brother-in-law James Sanders and opened S & L Floor Covering. Bobby spent the majority of his life in the Bloomfield community. 

On January 20, 1951, he married Mary Elizabeth Baremore in Piggott, Ark. 

Bobby lived a full life surrounded by loved ones. Before his passing, he had made peace with The Lord and was ready to reunite with his loving wife of 57 years and his son. Bobby enjoyed his independence, riding around Dexter on his little red scooter. 

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Ruth, and husband, Danny Nelson; two sons, Micheal Eugene and wife Teresa Lambert; and Jeffrey Keith Lambert. One brother-in-law, Barnard Elmer Baremore; four grandchildren, Shawn Robert Lambert and Eric Norden Lambert; Teri Ladawn Crowe and fiance Brett Kelley; Madison Elissa Lambert and many other loved ones. 

Mr. Lambert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary; his parents, two sisters; one brother, one son, Stanley Ray Lambert; and one granddaughter, Dacie Ruth Crowe. 

Pallbearers will be Brett Kelley, Brian Baremore, Alan Baremore, Shawn Lambert, Damian Lambert,  and Waylon Zook. Honorary pallbearers will be Barnard Baremore, Danny, Donna Nelson, Michael, Teresa Lambert, Jeffrey Lambert, Teri Ladawn Crowe, Eric Lambert, and Madison Lambert. 

The family sends their love and appreciation to Elara Care, Kay Seiler, and Puxico Nursing Home. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a love offering be made to North Antioch Cemetery, ? Nancy Beatty 22440 CR 227, Bloomfield, MO 63825.

Visitation was held Monday, January 30th, 2023 at 10 am at Watkins and Son Funeral Home in Dexter, MO, with the funeral services at 11 am conducted by James Elmer Fitts of Savannah, TN. Interment to follow at North Antioch Cemetery near Bloomfield.

In Memory of Pearl Irene Ashley

Pearl Irene Ashley, daughter of the late Argil Stickles and Opal Edwards Stickles, was born on July 3, 1946, in Dexter, Missouri and departed this life on January 25, 2023, at Quail Creek Skilled Nursing in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 76 years.

Mrs. Ashley was a former waitress for Lola’s in Dexter, and a former cook for Central Elementary School in Dexter. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter and a resident of Dexter.

Pearl also known as Nanny Ashley, loved Christmas. She would get all of her Christmas Village pieces out, decorate her Christmas tree, and had a touch of Christmas in practically every room in the house with Santas, garland, and Angels. She loved baking fresh homemade cookies, making white chocolate covered pretzels, bon bons, pies, cakes, Rice Krispie candies and then giving them to her friends and family. This was her overall Favorite Time of the Year!!!

On November 15, 1966, in Dexter, Missouri, she was united in marriage to John Wesley Ashley. Mr. Ashley preceded her in death on February 11, 2007.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Ashley and wife Missy of Dexter, Missouri and Sam Ashley and wife Lydia of Springfield, Missouri; by her sister-in-law, Shari Stickles of Dexter, Missouri; by Beverly Seabaugh of Dexter, Missouri, whom she thought of as a sister; by six grandchildren, Wesley Ashley, Gavin Ashley, Dylan Ashley and wife Taryn, Jesse Ashley, Caleb Ashley, Bella Ashley; and by two great-grandchildren, Stormie Ashley, and Eliana Ashley;

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Terry Stickles.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Sam Ashley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sadler Chapel Cemetery in Dexter.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of David Edward Hayden

David Edward Hayden of Puxico, Missouri, son of the late William and Effie Mae (Flood) Hayden born on February 2, 1939, in Puxico, Missouri, and passed from this life on January 24, 2023, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 83 years.

David moved back to the Puxico area upon his twenty year retirement from the U.S. Army. He was a VFW Member who also enjoyed hunting, farming, spending time with family, especially spoiling his grandchildren.

David was married to Yong Cha Won in South, Korea, in 1965.

He is survived by his wife of the home; three daughters, Janice (Dan) Richard of Fenton, Missouri, Cheryl (Kevin) Elledge of Wappapello, Missouri, and Amy Hayden of Wilmington, Ohio; four grandchildren, Matthew (Christina) Richard of Denver, Colorado, Stacy (Ed) Wanner of Ballwin, Missouri, Ryan (Cassie) Elledge of Wappapello, Missouri, and Kyle Elledge of Wappapello, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Lucas Elledge of Wappapello, Missouri and Edward Wanner of Ballwin, Missouri; two sisters, Doris Crawford and Sharon Shepherd of Puxico. A host of family and friends also survive.

David was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Carl Hayden.

Visitation will be from  11:00 A.M - 12:00  P.M  on Saturday, February 4, 2023, with funeral service following at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with Pastor Ray Placher officiating.

Internment will follow at the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri, with  Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of  arrangements.

In Memory of Rita Gail Stallion

Rita Gail Stallion of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, daughter of the late Delias and Winnie (McCollum) Cartwright was born on July 31, 1949, in Toppertown, Missouri, and passed from this life on January 24, 2023, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 73 years. 

 She was of the Methodist Faith. Rita was a former 4H member and a 4H volunteer, a member of the Arthritis Foundation and belonged to a local Tuesday Lunch Bunch. She loved to paint, photography, arts and crafts. She enjoyed being a home maker cooking, baking and really enjoyed caring for stray animals.  

Rita is survived by one daughter, Nikki (Jay) Brewer of St. Louis, Missouri; one grand daughter; a life long friend Marsha Cantanni; many nephews and nieces as well as a host of family and friends.

 She was proceeded in death by three brothers; Clyde, Jimmy and Loren "Bo" Cartwright; two sisters, Glenda "Toots" Link and Elizabeth Cartwright.

Visitation service will be Friday January 27, 2023  from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M with Memorial Service to follow at the Watkins And Sons Funeral Chapel in Bloomfield, Missouri with Pastor Steve Tippen officiating.

Interment will follow at the Walker Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins And Sons Funeral of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
