In Memory of Arvilla Dean Palmer

Arvilla Dean Palmer, daughter of the late Ralph Murphy and Stacy Lorell Crabtree Murphy, was born on August 27, 1935, in Elk Township, Missouri, and departed this life on April 9, 2022, in Dexter, Missouri, where she was a resident, at the age of 86 years.

She was united in marriage on July 31, 1953, in Frank Clay, Missouri, to Rev. Willard Preston Palmer. This true partnership of love and devotion surpassed even Preston’s death on October 15, 2019. That same love and devotion was showered upon her family, especially her daughters, “son” and two much cherished grandsons.

Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker and pastor’s wife. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene throughout her life. Most recently First Church of the Nazarene in Dexter. In her early years Arvilla worked at a shoe factory, a hosiery factory, and a Quality Stamps store. Later she became a fulltime mom and pastor’s wife. Having a heart for missions and spreading the love for Jesus, she was the missionary president at most of the churches where they pastored. She served on multiple church boards. She planned and participated in many vacation bible schools, taught Sunday school, and was part of the women’s fellowship at the various churches. Throughout her life Arvilla was an example of what a true Christian should be.

She is survived by two daughters, Deana Sue Palmer of Olathe, Kansas, and Penny Danette Palmer Haughey and husband John of Olathe, Kansas; by two grandsons, William Jacob “Jake” Haughey, and Joshua Palmer Haughey also of Olathe, Kansas; by three brothers, Quincy Murphy of Dexter, Missouri, Gary Murphy of Bernie, Missouri, and Berry Don Murphy of Dexter, Missouri; and by her sister, Linda Sue Garner of Sikeston Missouri.

Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Alveta Aycock.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted at the First Church of the Nazarene in Dexter on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In Memory of Gary Franklin Corlew

Gary Franklin Corlew, son of the late Rev. Doyle Corlew and Vera Blevins Corlew, was born on July 19, 1941, in Essex, Missouri, and departed this life on April 11, 2022, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 80 years.

Mr. Corlew was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam era. He was a former educator with the Dexter Public Schools in Dexter, Missouri, retiring after 32 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. Gary enjoyed painting, working Sudoku puzzles, and Diet Pepsi.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Bryant and husband Donald Clay Bryant of Advance, Missouri; by his brother David Corlew and wife Norma of Dexter, Missouri; and by four grandchildren, Erin Nelson, Samuel Nelson, Nathan Nelson, and Benjamin Nelson.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lana Corlew and Doylene Corlew.

Visitation will be held at the Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, April 15, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m.

A memorial service with full military honors will then be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield on Friday, April 15, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.

In Memory of Tony Allen Alsup

Tony Allen Alsup, son of Harold Junior Alsup and Betty Hayes Alsup of Bloomfield, Missouri, was born on November 8, 1960, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and departed this life on April 8, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in St Louis, Missouri, at the age of 61 years.

Mr. Alsup was an employee of Brown Construction in Dexter, Missouri. He was a member of the Lighthouse Christian Center in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. Tony enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and arrowhead hunting.

On January 9, 2009, in Bloomfield, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Mary Beth Phillips. Mrs. Alsup survives of their home in Dexter.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his step-son, Brett Frazier of Dexter, Missouri; by his step-daughter, Jessica Ammons and husband Dylan of Batesville, Arkansas; by two brothers, Harold Timmy Alsup and wife Sherry of Clarksville, Tennessee and Douglas Michael Alsup and wife Lorey of Harrisburg, Arkansas, and by his sister, Jeannie Sue Putney and husband Roger of Dexter, Missouri.

Visitation will be held at the Lighthouse Christian Center on Thursday, April 14, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

A memorial service will then be conducted at the Lighthouse Christian Center on Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Tim Russell officiating.

In Memory of David Neal Holloway

David Neal Holloway of Puxico, Missouri the son of Neal and Jean (Cookson) Holloway was born in Puxico, Missouri on April 20, 1951 and passed away on April 06, 2022 at the age of 70 years.  

David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Puxico, Lions Club, Heartland Cruisers Car Club, Jaycees, Puxico Square Dance, Former School Board Member.  He loved to help with the sports teams and was very community minded often organizing celebrations and car shows.  

He was united in marriage to Patricia Jane Foster on February 26, 1972 in Puxico, Missouri.  

David is survived by his wife Patricia Holloway; one son Patrick (Michelle) Holloway of Olivette, Missouri; two brothers Danny (Patty) Holloway of Puxico, Missouri and Doug (Ginger) Holloway of Puxico, Missouri; one sister Diane (Bill) McClure of Puxico, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.  A host of family and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers donations may be to the Puxico Education Foundation in memory of David Holloway.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday April 13, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.  

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday April 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with Rev. Ray Placher and Rev. Kenneth Lambert officiating. 

Interment will follow at Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Puxico in charge of all arrangements.

In Memory of Victoria H. Bunton

Victoria H. Bunton, daughter of the late Paul Sterns and Catherine Fyderkiewicz, was born on March 22, 1932, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, and departed this life on April 7, 2022, at her residence in Dudley, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.

Mrs. Bunton was a retired LPN and she had worked for Lawrence Hall Nursing Center in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.

She was united in marriage to Charles Lowell Bunton. Mr. Bunton preceded her in death in 1982.

She is survived by five sons, Charles Victor Bunton of Smithtown, New York, William Dexter Bunton of Mastic Beach, New York, Ronald Lowell Bunton of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Ronald Joseph Bunton of Dudley, Missouri, and Russell Thomas Bunton of Moscow Mills, Missouri; and by ten grandchildren, Charles Bunton, Paul, Bunton, William Bunton, Ron Bunton, Russ Bunton, Justin Bunton, Michael James Cooper Bunton, Nick Keith Cooper Bunton, Nathen Terry Cooper Bunton, and James Nash Cooper Bunton; and by sixteen great-grandchildren.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael James Cooper Bunton.

No services are currently planned.
