Thelma Marie Denny, 90, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:17 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021 at her home.
She was born September 30, 1930 in Greenbrier, Missouri, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Ella (Kirkpatrick) Nevels.
Thelma marred the love of her life, Carroll Eugene Denny of March 11, 1951 in Granite City and he passed away on October 9, 2014.
She retired in 1989 from the Fabric Store in Granite city and Alton after 20 years of service as a sales clerk and manager.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Granite City. Thelma was an avid quilter and made many beautiful quilts throughout the years. She also enjoyed her days of painting china and making china dolls. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Carol Elaine Denny of Glen Carbon; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Michael Makarewicz of Granite City; three grandchildren and a spouse, Natalie and Michael Decker, Christopher Kaelin, and Sarah Makarewicz; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Allie and Charlotte Decker; a brother, Bill Nevels of Puxico, Missouri; two sisters, Nina Cookson of Granite City and Glenda Wilfong of Dexter, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Rose Nevels of Anna, Illinois; her beloved dog, Lucy; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband of 60 years, she was preceded in death by a brother, Grover "Bud" Nevels; four sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia and Albert Odom, Jean Nevels, Alene Nevels and Hazel Trotts and brother-in-law Paul Cookson.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home, 300 N. Hickman Street in Puxico, Missouri on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Ray Placher officiating.
Burial will follow at Puxico Cemetery.

Vaneta Hendley King, daughter of the late Eldon Proffer and Delia Foeste Proffer, was born on June 22, 1924 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and departed this life on June 20, 2021 at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 96 years and died just two days shy of her 97th birthday.
Mrs. Hendley was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Bloomfield and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She resided on the family farm just north of Aquilla, Missouri. She had worked as a floor supervisor at Elder’s Manufacturing in Bloomfield and had also worked for the Visiting Nurse Association. She looked forward to interacting with all those who came to enjoy the Hendley Fishing Lake and the Hendley Pecan Grove. She loved spending time with her family and cooking their favorite treats. Her grandchildren looked forward to camping and spending the summers on the farm. She enjoyed a good game of dominoes and played to win, which she usually did. She took great pride in growing beautiful red roses and watching for the first hummingbird of spring.
She was first united in marriage to Joe H. Hendley on July 3, 1944, in Bloomfield. Mr. Hendley preceded her in death on October 24, 1997. She was then united in marriage to Blanton King on June 8, 2002 in Bloomfield. Mr. King preceded her in death on June 28, 2015.
She is survived by her son James Hendley and wife Fran of Bloomfield, Missouri; by her daughter, Jolinda Hendley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; by four grandchildren, Eric Olson and wife Sara, Joe Hendley and wife Kathy, Nicole Dages, and Tyler Hendley and wife Ashley; and by twelve great- grandchildren, Riley Olson, Jack Olson, Hailee Dages, Walker Dages, Nolan Dages, Wyatt Hendley, Katie Hendley, Isaac Hendley, Tessa Hendley, Clara Hendley, Maren Hendley, and Lucy Hendley.
Other than by her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cody Hendley
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Funeral services will then be conducted on Saturday, June 26, 2021 in the Mathis Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tyler Hendley officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
Memorials may be made to the Cody Hendley scholarship fund. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Mark Anthony Duncan II, son of Mark Anthony Duncan and Laurie Smith Duncan both of Dexter, Missouri was born on January 7, 1982, in Lapeer, Michigan and departed this life on June 19, 2021, at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 39 years.
On September 30, 2000, in Malden, Missouri he was united in marriage to Krystal Doyel. Mrs. Duncan survives of their home in Dexter.
In addition to his wife, Krystal, and his parents, he is survived by one son, Jackson Duncan of Dexter, Missouri; by two daughters, Jayden Duncan of Dexter, Missouri and Jasmine Duncan of Dexter, Missouri; and by his sister, Jennifer Fritts of Tennessee.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the West Park Pavilion in Dexter, Missouri.
Nancy Katherine Zickefoose, daughter of the late Herschel Wilber Deal and Frances Louise Ashley Deal, was born on February 28, 1948, in Sikeston, Missouri, and departed this life on June 16, 2021, at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at the age of 73 years.
Mrs. Zickefoose was a homemaker. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter, Missouri, and a resident of Dexter. Nancy enjoyed hidden picture games, and she loved crafting, sewing, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her family.
On November 6, 1999, in Sikeston, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Russell Zickefoose. Mr. Zickefoose survives of their home in Dexter.
In addition to her husband, Russell, she is survived by her step-daughter, Tina Lynn Marquis of Des Moine, Iowa; by her brother, Louis Hurt (Patricia) of Houston, Texas; by her sister, Patricia Scott of St. Louis, Missouri; by three grandchildren, Sandra Louise Greene, Evan Marquis, and Leah Marquis; by four great-grandchildren, Aden Turner, Allie Turner, Mattie Rodgers, and Delia Marquis; by her aunt and uncle, Katherine and M. B. Wethington of Dexter, Missouri; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Louis Green, by two brothers, Albert Lynn Hurt and Richard Gaitlin; and by her sister, Debbie Casey.

Rosemarie Jackson, 68 of Dexter, Missouri passed away June 15, 2021. She was the born to the late John and Bonnie Musgrave on February 20, 1953 in Dexter, Missouri.
Rosemarie was married to Allen Jackson on June 20, 1976. She enjoyed her flower garden and collecting antiques.
Rosemarie is survived by her husband Allen Jackson; three sons Ryan Jackson of Eureka, Missouri, Jeffrey Thomas of Puxico, Missouri and Jason Thomas of Charlotte, Arkansas; one daughter Michelle Murphy of Jackson, Missouri; two sisters Barbara Karmas of Dexter, Missouri and Dana Hux of Essex, Missouri; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A host of family and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by two sisters Deann Rogers and Debbie Cantrell.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Dale Rogers of Dexter, Missouri officiating at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Interment will follow in the Rogers Cemetery in Lowndes, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
