HM Richmond Obituary

HM Richmond son of EW (Lige) and Hester Holcomb Richmond, passed away January 5, 2016 At Southeast Hospital, Cape Girardeau MO.  He was born in Poplar Bluff MO on July 9, 1923.  

He graduated from Bloomfield High on May 7, 1941.  He married Betty Putnam on May 24, 1969.  He is survived by Betty Putnam Richmond of Bloomfield, Daughters, Donna Deardorff (Gary) of Bloomfield and Becky Gisi (Ron) of Bloomfield, son Rich Richmond of Bloomfield.  Grandchildren, Jennifer Barnes (Lee), Emily Carpenter (Ryan), Jill Deardorff, Katy Tarbutton (Greg), Charlene Herman, (Justin) and Renee Thornburg (DonPaul) of Woodlake CA.  Also, twelve great grandchildren.  He is survived by 2 brothers, RW (Wendy) Richmond of Dexter, and CL (Babe) Richmond of Cape Girardeau MO along with numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was proceeded in death by his parents and 3 half brothers, Carl, Wayne and Harry Richmond and a half sister, Marjorie Justice.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years.  He served as a commander of the Bloomfield VFW, also as president of Bloomfield Lions Club, and the first treasurer of the Elks Club.   He served as a member, Sunday school teacher, and treasurer of 1st Baptist Church of Bloomfield, and has been attending Liberty Hill GBC for the past few years.

He was very active in sports. He played independent baseball, and high school basketball.  He was an avid tennis and pool player and enthusiastic golfer.  He received 2 golden putters for his two holes-in-one at the Crowley Ridge Recreational Center at the ages of 82 and 84.

In 1941 he attended college at Rolla School of Mines and in 1942 he enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII.

He was a jack of all trades master of some: he worked for the state auditor as an examiner, manager of Grey Hound Inn restaurant (Somerset, KY), manager of the restaurant at Keenland Racetrack, (Lexington KY), bookkeeper at Alan Christian (Dexter), Owner and Operator of Northside grocery store, and a used furniture store, (Bloomfield).   He collected taxes for Castor and Liberty township for 16 years.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will then be conducted on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joe Payne officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers the family requests all memorials be made to the Liberty Hill General Baptist Church, Woman’s Missionary Fund OR Stoddard County Children’s Home.

Pauletta Kay Warren-Smith Obituary

Pauletta Kay Warren-Smith, daughter of the late Floyd Green and Erma Lee Melton Warren, was born in Dexter, Missouri on December 8, 1945, and passed away at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on January 5, 2016, at the age of 70 years and 28 days.

Mrs. Smith had lived in the Dexter area most of her life. She had worked as the scanning coordinator at Town & County Super Market and was of the Baptist faith.

On June 1, 1963 she married Jimie Dale Smith in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Surviving are her husband, Jimmie Dale Smith of Dexter, Missouri; one daughter, Beth Anne Smith of Dexter, Missouri; two grandchildren, Nuranda Harris and Bradley Kyle Swallows both of Dexter, Missouri; one great grandson, Camden Michael Harris of Dexter. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Michael Dale Smith and one brother in infancy.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in the Triplett Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri. Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri in charge of all arrangements.

Emma Calvert Obituary

Emma Calvert, daughter of the late Marion Lee Fielder and Bertha Mae Williams Fielder, was born on June 26, 1943 in Canalou, Missouri and departed this life on December 31, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 72.

Mrs. Calvert was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter.

On December 19, 1980, she was united in marriage to Billy Garner Calvert in Dexter, Missouri.  Mr. Calvert preceded her in death on April 7, 2008.

She is survived by one step-son, Bill Calvert of Kansas; by two brothers, J. C. Fielder and Jerry Wayne Fielder, both of Texas; by one sister, Selmer Pulliam of Dexter; by three grandchildren, Chad Calvert and his wife Melanie, Christy Moore and Narley Calvert and by five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one step-son, Kenneth Michael Calvert; by two brothers; and by two sisters. 

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

William G. Abbott Obituary

William G. “Bill” Abbott, son of the late John M. “Jack”Abbott and Cecil Kester Abbott, was born on May 25, 1936 in Stillwell, Oklahoma and departed this life on January 5, 2016 at his residence in Dudley, Missouri at the age of 79.

Mr. Abbott was a member of the Dudley Community Church and had worked in construction as a backhoe operator 

On July 28, 1956, he was united in marriage to Louise Jarrell in Maplewood, Missouri.  Mrs. Abbott survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Richard D. “Rick” Abbott and his wife Pauline of Waynesville, Illinois; by one daughter, Vicki Holmes and her husband Wayne of Carrollton, Georgia; by four brothers, Fay Abbott, J. D. Abbott, Luther Abbott and Roy Gene Abbott, all of Granite City, Illinois; by two sisters, Irene Williams of Piedmont, Missouri and Tess Abbott of Granite City, Illinois; by three grandchildren, Amy Abbott, Kristina Abbott and Josh Holmes; and by two great-grandchildren, Ryan Lashbrook and Karlee Holmes.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, January 8, 2015 from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Lynn Ash officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Dudley Cemetery.

Loyd Snider Obituary

Loyd Snider, son of the late Riley and Grace Bridges Snider, was born in Essex, Missouri on August 12, 1918, and passed away at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff on January 5, 2016, at the age of 97 years.

He lived in Bloomfield most of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield where he had served as a deacon. He had participated in the Meals on Wheels program. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during WWII, and was a member of the Amvets.

He was first married to Louise Harris and she preceded him in death. He was then married to Daisy Miller and she preceded him in death.

Surviving are Shirley Furness of Newberg, Oregon; one step-daughter, Carol Walton of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three sisters, Sue Barnfield and Freda Geiger both of Puxico, Missouri and  Dorothy Johnson of Reno, Nevada. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Snider; one daughter, Beverley Patterson; two brothers, Floyd and Chester Snider and one sister, Eunice Wolpers.

Friends may visit on Thursday, January 7, 2016, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Missouri.

Funeral services will be on Friday, January 8, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Jerry Darby of Malden officiating.

Interment will follow at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
