Luzell Matney Grubbs, daughter of the late Claude Ashley and Mamie Strong Ashley, was born on March 7, 1926 in East Prairie and departed this life on April 30, 2015 at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 89.
Mrs. Grubbs was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter.
She was united in marriage to Robert Matney. Mr. Matney preceded her in death in 1981.
She is survived by three sons, Robert D. Matney, Winford L. Matney and Mark A. Matney, all of Dexter; by five daughters, Janie L. DeJournett of Dexter, Verla D. Phillips of Dexter, Ruth H. Scott of Bloomfield, Brenda J. Richardson of Dexter and Carolyn S. Hayes of Morehouse; and by fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, John Ashley.
Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
Funeral services will follow in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel at 1:00 P.M. with Travis Quertermous officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
Dorothy lived in Seymour for seventy-six years where she worked as a veterinarian assistant for twenty-two of her adult years. After losing her husband of fifty-three years, John Boggess, Dorothy made the move to Dexter, Missouri to be closer to her son, Dennis, and family. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dexter after serving as a member and song leader for many years at Liberty Freewill Baptist in Seymour. After her move, it was her greatest joy to be a member of the Mary Magdalene Sunday School Class to serve there wherever she was needed.
Dorothy was a Christian woman. She loved serving her Lord by praying for others, cooking for church dinners, helping with children’s’ church plays, leading the song service of numerous church outings, and being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dorothy loved the Seymour community and worked to help plan class reunions for the annual Seymour alumni Banquet. She had a fierce love for her classmates and loved getting together with all those that visited her home and the banquet. She also loved to travel and her kids teased her that her middle name should have been “Go!” Wherever she traveled, she could strike up a conversation and make you feel like you were special. A hug and a smile were just as important to her as anything material. She used her life to witness for the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Walton Boggess. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her only brother, JC Newman, his wife, Mildred, and their daughter, Barbara Caldwell; her sister, Virginia Marler, and her husband, Fred; and her sister-in-law, Virginia Lower.
Dorothy is survived by one son and the joy of her life, Dennis Alan Boggess, and his wife, Cheryl; grandson, Christopher Boggess and wife, Meg, and their two children, Adele and Elijah; grandson, Joshua Boggess and wife, Meredith, and their two children, Elise and Benjamin. Dorothy is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Phillip Boggess and wife, Lavonne, and Kenneth Boggess and wife, Barbara; and several beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She had lived in the Bloomfield, Missouri area most of her life. She was a member of the Mt. Pisgah General Baptist Church near Bloomfield, Missouri.
On September 20, 1941, she was married to Orvel Lafferty in Gray Ridge, Missouri. He preceded her in death October 15, 1991.
Surviving are one daughter, Annette Kathy Roberts of Bloomfield; three sons, Bill Lafferty of Carrolton, Texas, Jerry Lafferty of Loundes, Missouri, Donald Lafferty address unknown; thirteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley Gibson of Bloomfield, Alvin Gibson of Denver, Colorado; and one sister, Jeanie Warren of New Bloomfield, Missouri. Other relatives and many friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Robert Lafferty, Walter Allen Lafferty, Marvin D. Lafferty and Edward Ray Lafferty, three brothers and seven sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Gary Hancock of Fagus, Missouri officiating.
Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.

Sue Sturgess, daughter of the late Oliver White and Mary Edith Garner White was born on November 19, 1938 at Pyletown and departed this life in the SoutheastHealth of Cape Girardeau, Missouri on April 23, 2015 at the age of 76 years.
Mrs. Sturgess was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ. In her early years, she worked at Elder Manufacturing in Dexter, had worked as an Independent Sales Consultant and was a local business owner.
She was united in marriage to Sammy L. Sturgess on October 11, 1957 at Dexter. Mr. Sturgess survives of the home in Dexter.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kathy Sturgess of Sikeston; by three daughters, Deborah Sturgess of Dexter, Dana Sturgess Frazier and husband Mark of Stuarts Draft, Virginia and Dr. Susan Sturgess Lucktong and husband Dr. Ek Lucktong of Mooresville, North Carolina; by one sister, Verla Jean White of Dexter; six grandchildren, Hannah and Haley Frazier, Sammy and Savannah Lucktong, Jennifer and Michael Scism; also by one great-grandson Connor Scism.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Danny Keith Sturgess.
Visitation will be held at the Dexter Church of Christ on Sunday April 26, 2015 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.
Funeral services will then be conducted at 3:00 P.M. in the Dexter Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery.

Debra Blunt, daughter of Dortha Blunt of Dexter, Missouri and the late Martin Blunt, was born on June 4, 1957 in Dexter and passed away on April 22, 2015 at her residence in Sikeston at the age of 57.
She was a member of the Cape First Church of Sikeston, had worked in claims for the Dewitt Company in Sikeston and was a member of the Dexter Senior High Class of 1975.
Besides her mother she is survived by two sons, Shane Blunt and Shawn Blunt both of Sikeston; by one daughter, Ciara Blunt of Sikeston; by one brother, Ronny Blunt of Colorado; and by two sisters, Kathy Ivy of Dexter and Sherry Busick of Dexter.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Blunt and Robert Blunt.
Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allen Basham officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sadler Chapel Cemetery in Dexter.
