Imogene Lape

Imogene Lape

Imogene Lape, daughter of the late Cyrus Blevins and Sylvia Blevins, was born on March 7, 1923 in Essex, Missouri and departed this life on March 11, 2015 at SoutheastHEALTH in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 92.

Mrs. Lape was a resident of Dexter.

On March 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Curtis R. Lape in Piggott, Arkansas.  Mr. Lape preceded her in death on February 20, 2010.

She is survived by one son, Tony R. Lape of Jackson, Missouri; by two daughters, June C. Aycock (Bill) of Dexter, Missouri; by Connie L. Lape of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by one sister, Fay Geno of Malden, Missouri; by five grandchildren, Wes Aycock, Neil Aycock, Whitney Brothers, Merdith Peirick and Ian Lape; and by six great-grandchildren, Eli Aycock, Landon Aycock, Balin Brothers, Rylan Brothers, Baron Peirick and Truett Peirick.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers; by four sisters; and by her daughter-in-law, Danna Lape.

A private funeral service will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter on Saturday, March 14, 2015. 

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Darrell R. Martin

Darrell R. Martin, son of the late R. C. Martin and Audrey Martin, was born on January 18, 1950 in Sikeston, Missouri and departed this life on March 10, 2015 at his residence in Essex, Missouri at the age of 65.

Mr. Martin had worked as a Router Operator for Rowe Furniture Company in Morehouse, Missouri.

On October 29, 1997, he was united in marriage to Regina Kelley in Piggott, Arkansas.  Mrs. Martin survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Darren Martin of Sikeston, David Martin of Dexter, Jeremy Martin of St. Louis, Brian Martin of Jackson and John Price of Brighton, Michigan; by one daughter, Marci Price of Sikeston; by one sister, Scarlett Justice of Houston, Texas; by fourteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Clayton Martin; and by one brother, Gary Martin.

Friends may call at the Church of Christ in Essex, Missouri on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. 

A memorial service will be conducted at the Church of Christ in Essex on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Herman Morse officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter

Vaudine Jackson

Vaudine Jackson, daughter of the late James Dan Goodrich and Mary Hargrove Goodrich, was born on April 27, 1931 in Bono, Arkansas and departed this life on March 10, 2015 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 83.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.  She and her family moved from Kennett to Dexter in 1966 and she worked as a bookkeeper for MFA Grain Company in Dexter.  Mrs. Jackson enjoyed cooking and oil painting and was presently residing in Cape Girardeau.

On June 19, 1956, she was united in marriage to Russell Keith Jackson in Hernando, Mississippi.  Mr. Jackson preceded her in death on February 28, 2002.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jo Backfisch and Jeris Knight, both of Dexter; by one sister, Louise McPeters of St. Louis; by five grandchildren, Kristi Allstun, Tammy Boyles, Jaime Lynn Hillis, Joy April Green and Elizabeth Ann Knight; and by six great-grandchildren, Ashley Allstun, James Beauchemin, William Beauchemin, Madison Beauchemin, James Logan Cornett and Delbert Eull Cornett.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Judson Goodrich and Ben Goodrich; and by two sisters, Helen Inman and Polly Sisson.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Vernon Long officiating.

Interment will follow in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery in Dexter.

Lowan Edward Griffin
Lowan Edward Griffin, son of the late William Fonzie and Mabel Funkhouser Griffin, was born in Dudley, Missouri on September 16, 1932, and passed away at the Washington County Hospital in Potosi, Missouri on March 8, 2015, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 20 days.

He had lived in Dudley until moving to Potosi in 1974. He had worked as an iron worker and was a member of the Iron Workers Local Union in St. Louis. He was a member of the Potosi Church of God.

On June 9, 1956, he was married to Joyce Adele Ezell in Bloomfield, Missouri.  She preceded him in death on August 8, 2003.

Surviving are three sons, Roland Griffin, William Griffin and Mark Griffin all of Potosi, Missouri; one daughter, Tootie Sifford of Dexter, Missouri; six grandchildren; and one sister, Janease Harms of Wynona, Missouri. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Gary, Friz, Kenny and Rudy Griffin and one sister, Jo Ann Kestner.

Friends may call on Friday, March 13, 2015, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter in Dexter with Rev. Kent Miller of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, officiating.

Interment will be in the Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri, in charge of arrangements.

Easter Lillie LaRue, daughter of the late J. A. and Lillie James LaRue, was born in LaValle, Missouri on April 12, 1925, and passed away at the Gassville Therapy & Living Center in Gassville, Arkansas on March 10, 2015, at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 26 days.

She had lived in Dexter, Missouri most of her life and moved to Mt. Home, Arkansas three years ago. She was a member of the Gospel Assembly.

On August 1, 1942, she was married to Tillman Adkins in Bloomfield, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1973. She then married Charlie LaRue on September 6, 1973. He preceded her in death in 1979.

Surviving are four sons, Tillman D. Adkins of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Arthur D. Adkins of Montrose, Michigan, Kerry D. Adkins of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Kenneth D. Adkins of Dexter, Missouri; two daughters, Vannessa K. Martin of Kokomo, Indiana, Valeria K. Jurczak of Montrose, Michigan; one brother, Lawrence A. Putney of Flint, Michigan; two sisters, Ora Putney of Dexter, Missouri and Aline Baker of near Flint, Michigan. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Friday, March 13, 2015, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015, at 12:00 pm at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
