Marjorie McCarver
Marjorie McCarver, daughter of the late Othor and Lora Hildebrand Sandefur, was born in Clarkton, Missouri on May 21, 1919, and passed away at the Cypress Point Nursing Center in Dexter, Missouri on February 7, 2014, at the age of 94 years.

She had lived in Dexter, Missouri since 1948. She had owned and operated her own beauty parlor in Dexter for many years and had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter since 1948.

On October 9, 1939, she was married to Robert Wayne "Bob" McCarver in Malden, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2007.

Surviving are one daughter and husband, Judy & Hoy Heise of Brookfield, Connecticut,two grandsons and wives; Christopher Evan & Sheri Heise of California, Robert Hoy & Cary Heise of North Carolina; two great grandchildren; Ashlin and Carver Heise. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Friends may visit on Monday, February 10, 2014, after 12:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri with the Rev. Tom Bass of Cape Girardeau and Steve Moody of Clarkton officiating.

Interment with be in the Stanfield Cemetery near Clarkton, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Geraldine Broyles

Wilma Geraldine Broyles, daughter of the late R. D. Womack and Beatrice Williams Womack, was born on February 17, 1932 in Pemiscot County, Missouri and passed away on February 5, 2014 at SoutheastHealth Center of Stoddard County in Dexter at the age of 81.

Mrs. Broyles was a member of the Pleasant Grove Community Church in Dexter.  She had worked at Brown Shoe Company in Bernie and Federal Mogul in Malden, was a resident of Dexter and enjoyed sewing and reading.

She is survived by one daughter, Pamela Carlson and her husband Larry of Columbia, Missouri; by two brothers, Louis Womack and his wife Frances of Dexter and Robert Paul Womack and his wife Billie of Dexter; by two sisters, Ruth Williams and her husband Leonard of Springfield, Missouri and Mary Hawks of Mazon, Illinois; by two grandchildren; Karen Eagle and her husband Tom and Michael Carlson; and by five great-grandchildren.  She leaves behind two very close friends, Nola Jennings and Lorene Thomason.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Dewey Womack; and by one sister, Velda Womack. 

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 2:30 P.M. with Rev. Paul Pierce officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Sycamore Cemetery.

Margaret Irene Forristal Ward

Margaret Irene Forristal Ward, daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Forristal and Norma Leona Stackhouse Forristal was born on August 20, 1942 at Gainesville, Arkansas and departed this life in the SoutheastHealth Center of Stoddard County on February 4, 2014 at the age of 71.


Ms. Ward is survived by two daughters, Cathleen Donohue and her companion Monroe Quinn of Dexter and Norma Halford and her husband Bradley of Oran: by two brothers, Henry Forristal of Riverside, California and Charles Forristal of Hemet, California: by two sisters, Ellen Williams of Lee, Florida and Dorothy Kolb of Rockport, Oregon: by five grandchildren, Christina Cash, Marcus Flacy, Zachary Anderson, Darrell (Trey) Anderson III and Nathan Quinn: by three great-grandchildren, Caitlin Cash, Chloe Cash and Kurt Flacy.


Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Forristal.


Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of Ms. Ward’s death care.

Reuben Owens

Reuben Owens, son of the late Orlie Owens and Esley Belle Stephens Owens was born in New Madrid County, Missouri on June 27, 1936 and departed this life in Golden Living Center in Malden, Missouri on February 3, 2014 at the age of 77.

Mr. Owens was a Self Employed Truck Driver, was a resident of Bernie and was affiliated with Bernie Church of Christ.

He was united in marriage to Reba Ann Henson in Tunica, Mississippi on April 23, 1955.  Mrs. Owens remains at their home in Bernie.

Other survivors include two sons, Buford Dwight Owens of Fruitland, Missouri and Michael Douglas Owens of Elkhorn, Nebraska; by one daughter, Melanie Ann Ayers of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by six grandchildren, Natalie Burnside, Scarlett Dawson, Krystal Hobgood, Waylon Owens, Jessica Cabaniss and Paul Owens; by nine great-grandchildren,  Emma Dawson, Aidan Burnside, Preston Burnside, Kierstyn Burnside, Dalton Hobgood, Cane Hobgood, Bella Owens, MaKenzie Cabaniss and Lillie Cabaniss;  by two brothers, Bill Owens and Jerry Owens both of Bernie, Missouri; by two sisters, Amy Green of Campbell, Missouri and Theetta Cokley of Bernie, Missouri; by one sister in law, Ruby Karnes of Clinton, Mississippi; also by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death other than by parents by one son,  Reuben Dewayne Owens; by one brother, Buford Owens, by one sister, Patricia Johnson.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri on Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.  

Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, February 7, 2014 starting at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie, Missouri with Josh Ketchum officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

Halen S. Smith
Halen S. Smith, son of the late John Tyler and Anna Mayberry Smith, was born in Leora, Missouri on November 3, 1918, and passed away at the Puxico Nursing Center in Puxico, Missouri on February 3, 2014, at the age of 95 years and 3 months.

He had lived in the Puxico area all of his life. He had worked in maintenance for the Missouri Dept. of Transportation. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Puxico, the Puxico V.F.W. Post 7288 and was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

On September 14, 1941, he was married to Rilla Lee Hicks in Bloomfield. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2010.

Surviving are two sons and wives, Sanford & Delitha Smith of Puxico, Roger & Brenda Smith of Cape Girardeau; one daughter and husband, Marilyn & Sonny Newsom of Puxico; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and one brother, John C. Smith of Garden City, Michigan. Other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 6, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Friday February 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri with Rev. Dennis Doublin and Travis Reems both of Puxico, Missouri officiating.

Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.
