Kenneth Edward Richter
Kenneth Edward Richter, son of the late Edward and Alice Zorn Richter, was born in Steelville, Missouri on March 12, 1927, and passed away at Christian Health & Rehab Center in Lebanon, Missouri on October 21, 2013, at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 9 days.
He had lived in Steelville and Poplar Bluff before moving to Lebanon 13 years ago. He had worked at Brown Shoe Company and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
On February 17, 1989, he was married to Edna Stinnett in Steelville, Missouri. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Swartz of Pleasant Hope, Michigan, Sharron Brown of Ellsinore, Missouri; three sons, Leon Gregory of West Plains, Missouri, Dona nd Ron Gregory both of Lebanon, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and one brother, Curtis Richter. Other family and friends also survive.
There are no services scheduled at this time.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Bess
Jerry Bess, son of Jack and Pauline Nelson Bess, was born in Advance, Missouri on August 8, 1943, and passed away at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on October 21, 2013, at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 13 days.
He had lived in the Puxico area all of is life. He was a row crop farmer and had served in the Missouri National Guard.
Surviving are his parents, Jack and Pauline Bess of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; three daughters and spouse, Bami Parsons of Clearwater, Florida, Cindy & Randy Martin of Puxico, Missouri, Ashley Bess of Arnold, Missouri; one son, Todd Bess of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; two  grandchildren, Jarrett Martin of Puxico, Missouri and Jacie Parsons of Clearwater, Florida. Other family and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held on Friday October 25, 2013 after 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Friday October 25, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Puxico, Missouri.
Interment will follow in the Rock Point Cemetery near Swinton, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Rick Williams

Rick Williams, son of Katherine Ward Williams and the late R.C. Williams was born on September 1, 1953 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on October 21, 2013 at the age of 60 years.

Rick built Fiddler’s Restaurant in Dexter and was the co-owner with the late Marilyn Taylor Williams for many years.  He worked at Taylor Fish Farm and was a loving Father, Son, Grandfather, and friend to many. Rick was of the Methodist Faith and a resident of Dexter.

Survivors include his mother Katherine Williams of Dexter, by two sons Richard Charles Williams and Roy Lynn Williams of Dexter; by two grandchildren, Addilyn Paige Williams and Tayton Charles Williams both of Dexter; by Aunt Rachel Ward of Bloomfield; also by other relatives and very close friends.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 24, 2013.

Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Alice Fowler officiating.

Ann Vaught

Ann Vaught, daughter of the late Charles Columbus Wing and Lillie Howarth Wing, was born on September 21, 1921 in Pocasset, Oklahoma and departed this life in the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau on October 19, 2013, at the age of 92.

She was a former seamstress for Elder Manufacturing in Bloomfield and a resident of Dexter.

She is survived by two sons and their wives: Billy and Maria Vaught of Bryceville, Florida, Danny and Mary Vaught of Orange Park, Florida: by two daughters and their husbands:  Lavona and Raymond Lunbeck of Sikeston, Cathy and Brad Williams of Dexter: by two sisters, Murlene Gilbow of Murphysboro, Tennessee and Louise James of Sikeston: by nine grandchildren, Dana Byers, Thomas Vaught, Sara Lorusso, Raymond Lunbeck Jr., Sherry Carlton, Elizabeth Mothershead, Kevin Williams and Amy Backus: by  ten great-grandchildren, Rebecca Byers, Sophie O’Neal, Zachery Lorusso, Meghan Mothershead, Madison Mothershead, Katie Williams, Anna Williams, Keri Williams, Jera Backus and Jagur Backus.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, James Russell Vaught, one grandson, Michael Lunbeck: by three brothers, Charles Wing Jr., William Howarth Wing and James Wing: by two sisters, Virginia Tharp and Irene Causbie.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 22, 2013. 

Funeral services will then be conducted at 10:30 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Preston Owens officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Sikeston Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Jewell Bell was the oldest of nine children, born July 23, 1932, in Parma, Mo. to the late Lester Marion and Rachel Cardella (Barton) Stephens. She died on Oct. 18, 2013 at the age of 81.

She was the granddaughter of the late James Pendleton and Sarah Jane (Shaw) Barton and Henry Lee and Alpha Adeline (Gwaltney) Stephens.

On Jan. 29, 1949, she married Steve Vernon Bell in Piggott, Ark., who survives of the home.

Mrs. Bell was a member of the Risen Church in Dexter. She attended Risco Schools. A long time member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1967, she reached the eligibility of Torch Bearer Degree, receiving both the Silver and Golden Circle honors.

Jewell loved to travel and traveled extensively around the world. As a member of the Missouri Delta Unit Airstream Club, she traveled throughout the United States.

She and her husband, Steve, were pioneers in the development of the Cable TV industry.

Above all, Jewell loved her family and friends.

In addition to her husband Steve, she leaves to cherish her memory:  her son Steve Vernon Bell II and wife Janet of Dexter; three daughters, Janet Lynn Heuring of Dexter, Linda Gaye Cooper and husband Barry of Dexter, and Margaret Jo Ellen Bell and companion Dale Brame of Van Buren; four brothers, Jerry Stephens of Clearwater, Florida, Gary Stephens and wife Dian of Bowling Green, Ky., JR Stephens and wife Dorothy of Malden, and Lindel Stephens and wife Suzette of Parma; three sisters, Betty Bernice Williams and husband Bill of Wildwood, Mo., Wanda Stephens of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Hazel Floyd of Shell Knob, Mo.; sister-in-law, Loy Stephens, of Bethalto, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Eric Heuring and wife Emily, Lori Bishop and husband Kevin, Brandi Juden and husband Andrew, Brandon Church and wife Cheyenne, Kristina Bell, Julianna Bell and Dylan Acevedo; seven great-grandchildren; Anna, Lydia, Luke, Charles Avery, Brittany, Aiden and Jacey;  one great-great grandchild, Caiden; and many neices and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one grandson; Christopher Gerald Heuring; one brother, Homer Darrel Stephens; one brother-in-law, Jim Floyd; and one sister-in-law; Gwen Stephens.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from noon until 3 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Oct.  20, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joshua Carpenter officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Heuring, Brandon Church, Kevin Bishop, Dylan Acevedo, Cody Branch and Jon Rust.
