Brooke Duckworth Crowned Miss DHS

Brooke Duckworth Crowned Miss DHS

Last night a tradition continued as the Miss DHS was crowned at Charles Bland Stadium prior to the football game. Miss DHS got started around 6:20 P.M. before the Bearcats took on a game against the Kennett Indians at 7:00 P.M.

The weather was perfect with a slight breeze as fans became crowding into the stadium for last night’s festivities. Eight girls in dresses could be spotted down by the field house with their escorts waiting for the big moment.

Every year around the beginning of September, a box is set up in the high school office for Miss DHS nominations. Members of the senior class are invited to nominate one girl they feel is deserving of the nomination. From there, the eight girls with the most votes from their classmates are considered the Miss DHS Nominees.

After finding out about being nominated, the girls are then asked to find an escort who is not a football player to escort her during the event.

Despite being nominated by the senior class, the whole student body participates in the final voting process.

Each girl is announced along with her escort prior to the game. After each nominee and escort is announced, the Miss DHS Court is revealed.

The eight 2012 Miss DHS nominees were Whittney Twomey, Brooke Duckworth, Taylor Winstead, Brooke Stoker, Sydney Graves, Stephanie Gee, Jessica Norman, and Alexis Rauls.

Claiming the second alternate spot was Miss Sydney Graves, first alternate was won by Stephanie Gee, and Brooke Duckworth was crowned the 2012 Miss DHS.

Shown in the photo below from left to right is second alternate Sydney Graves with her escort Sam Ward, Queen Brooke Duckworth and her escort Jordan Miller, first alternate Stephanie Gee and Jacob Robinson.

Stoddard County Fairgrounds Dexter, MO - A special auction will be held this evening at 9:00 PM at the Stoddard County Fairgrounds.  The artistry and work of Stacy and Jo Anne Robinson from Montgomery City will be on hand and auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Many of you have witnessed first hand this dynamic duo at the fair all week as they performed their magic with chainsaws and large pieces of hardwood.  With masterful technique and a plan in their mind, this husband and wife combo yields incredible keepsakes from large logs.

The couple has been involved with the Stoddard County Fair for many years in the past.  Many attendees may not realize that these items are actually for sale.  Tonight at 9:00 o'clock, you will have your opportunity to become the proud owner of these artful logs.

Sam Huey of the Stoddard County Park Board urges everyone to be involved and be there to get their bid in on the items Stacy has made this week.  Stacy has several items that will be of interest to everyone.

Bracelet Night at Stoddard Co. Fair

Bracelet Night at Stoddard Co. Fair
Written by
Jessica Snider SMT Writer

A large number of people in the surrounding area look forward to the Thursday night of the fair every year. For a long time, the Thursday during the fair week has been known as “bracelet night.”

Many people feel as if bracelet night is less of a hassle if you’re one to ride many of the rides. Bracelets can be purchased for twenty dollars each between 6:00 and 10:00 P.M.

Bracelets can be used to get on the rides instead of tickets if one wishes to do so. It does make it a lot easier to buy a bracelet at the beginning of the night and be able to use it all night instead of standing in line numerous times at the ticket booth.

Other than being bracelet night, there will be more festivities tonight at the Stoddard County Fair. Some of those include: cattle, hogs, and equine judging in Arena A at 6:00 P.M., Robinson Chainsaw Wood Carvers and Puppet show at 7:00 P.M., Magic Mike, FFA Tractor Rodeo at 8:00 P.M. in Arena A, and Karaoke in Arena B at 8:00 P.M.

We wish everyone a safe and fun time while attending the Stoddard County Fair, and once again, don’t forget to take advantage of bracelet night starting at 6:00 P.M.

"Slam For Sam" Charity Event
September 19th 2012 by Unknown

Be sure to head down to the Stoddard County Fair at the fairgounds tonight. While you are there be sure to make your way to the “Slam for Sam” event. This event is being put together to raise money for a nine year-old boy named, Sam.

Sam was a perfectly healthy boy until he contracted a virus this summer that set up in his heart which facilitated the need for a heart transplant. He is the son Anita (Dudley) Barrios, grandson of Joe Dudley, and nephew of Jeff Dudley. Sam got his heart and is doing better but has a fight ahead of him. So as you could imagine there were an extremely large amount of expenses related to getting Sam to the point he is at now.

It is a fun event where you can use sledge-hammers, claw hammers and various other means of destruction to beat up on an old car. For a donation you can have fun and help out a young boy in need. The car was donated by Alan Rettig with Retco Trailers of Sikeston.

So be sure to get down to fair and take a swing at this old car and help out a family that needs help. If you can’t make it to the event you can make a donation to an account set up for them at US Bank.
