Richland Sr. Beta Students Earn Recognition

Essex, Missouri - Richland R-1 School Sr. Beta Club attended the annual Missouri State Beta Convention in Springfield, Missouri on March 4th and 5th.

Students earning awards were Luke Rhodes, Megan Cullum, Skyler Oakley, Emily Blunt, Garet Phillips, Kate Wyman, and Halle Swallows.

Rhodes placed 1st in Division 2 Social Studies while Cullum, Phillips, Swallows, Rhodes, and Oakley all placed 1st in the Rube Goldberg Beta Build group project.

Emily Blunt received 1st place in Digital Art and Kate Wyman brought home both 2nd place in Language Arts Division 1 and 3rd place in Poetry Division 1.

All of these student now qualify to attend the National Beta Convention in Orlando, Florida this summer.

Dexter Elks January Students of the Month

Essex, Missouri - The Dexter Elks January Students of the Month are Katelyn Pinkley and Lane Brown of Richland High School.  Both are seniors and will graduate in May 2017

Larry White, Dexter Elks Lodge member, presented certificates and $50 checks for Savings Bonds to both seniors.

Katelyn Pinkley is the daughter of Jason and Maygin Pinkley.

Lane Brown is the son of Patrick and Karen Brown.

Katelyn and Lane are competing with honorees from the other county schools for the Dexter Elks Students of the Year.

Both students, along with their parents and counselor, Beverly Hampton, will be honored with a banquet to be held at the Dexter Elks Lodge later this spring.

The Elks Students of the Year will be announced at the spring banquet.

Richland Schools Set Kindergarten Screening Dates

Essex, Missouri - Richland R-1 Schools will hold a Kindergarten/Preschool Screening Enrollment for the 2017-2018 academic school year on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the elementary school.

A child must be five (5) years of age before August 1, 2017 in order to enroll in kindergarten.

The preschool screening will be for children ages three and four years old before August 1, 2017.

Appointments may be made by calling the school at (573) 283-5310.

Parents or guardians will need to bring the child's birth certificate, Social Security Card, updated immunization record and proof of residency with them at the time of screening.

Proof of residency may be a water bill, utility bill, cable bill or tax statement bearing the name of the parent/guardian.

Richland Students Earn Photography Awards

Essex, Missouri - Richland R-1 School’s yearbook program recently received three top level photography awards during the International Quill & Scroll Yearbook Excellence Contest.

Drew Hickson, left, who graduated in May 2016, brought home the Sweepstakes award for the Sports Action Photo, Division B category and sophomore Emily Blunt, right, also received a Sweepstakes award for her shot in the Clubs or Organizations Photo, Division B.

The Sweepstakes award is the top over all winner in a division for a Quill & Scroll contest. In the middle, Editor-in-Chief Katie Pinkley shows off The Blue and Gold Comprehensive Visuals Award the staff received for their overall photo work in their 2016 yearbook.

The Blue and Gold Staff Excellence Award is the highest achievement a staff can receive in the International Quill & Scroll Yearbook Excellence Contest.

FCCLA Region 8 Holds Officer Elections

Advance, Missouri - On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, FCCLA Region 8 met at Advance High School for their annual screening for new regional officers.

Richland took three offices with Megan Cullum as Region 8 President, Kate Wyman as Region 8 Secretary, and Chloe Holman as Region 8 Reporter.  Judy Ackman is the advisor for Richland.

Bloomfield took one position with Dakota Stroup as Treasurer.

Dexter also took one position with Cheyene McCollom as Skit Designer.
