In Memory of Norris “Bud” Temples Jr

Norris “Bud” Temples Jr., son of the late Norris Temples Sr. and Lucille Thrower Temples, was born on May 28, 1938, in Dudley, Missouri, and departed this life on January 1, 2025, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 86 years.


Mr. Temples was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was the former owner of Temples Auction Service and a former Stoddard County Presiding Commissioner. He was a member of Wings of Mercy Church in Dudley, Missouri, and a resident of Dudley.


On October 30, 1964, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Shipman. Mrs. Temples preceded him in death on July 16, 2006.


He is survived by his son, Aaron Lee Temples of Dexter, Missouri; by two brothers, Clifford Temples and wife Jo of Dudley, Missouri, and Gary Temples and wife Terry of Dexter, Missouri; by his sister, Carolyn Sue Sadler and husband Alvin of St. Charles, Missouri; by two grandsons, Jamie Durham and Josh Durham; by five great-granddaughters, Destiny Durham (CJ Greene), Alexis Durham (Marcellus Fleming), Zoey Durham, Heidi Durham, and Aubrey Camden, and by his great-great granddaughter, Harmony Fleming.


Other than by his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Ronald D. Temples, Darren Len Temples and Donald Lee Temples; and by two sisters, Barbara Taylor and Lorene Brown.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

In Memory of Roger Allen Martin

Roger Allen Martin, son of the late James Wayne Martin Sr. and Betty Malone Shipley, was born on December 14, 1958, in Elgin, Illinois, and departed this life on January 1, 2025, at Stonebridge Nursing Home in Marble Hill, Missouri, at the age of 66 years.


Mr. Martin had worked for Taco Bell and the Sheltered Workshop in Dexter. He enjoyed classic rock music and drinking big sodas.


He is survived by three sisters, Bonnie Quick of Salem, Missouri, Carolyn Burke of Georgia, and Mary Martin of Dexter, Missouri; and by many nieces and nephews.


Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Wayne Martin Jr. and Ronnie Dean Martin; and by his step-father, Charles Shipley.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Kathy Medlin officiating. Interment will follow in North Lawn Cemetery in Salem, Missouri.

In Memory of Ruby Mae Jones

Ruby Mae Jones, daughter of the late Frank Gentry and Curtis Connell Kirksey, was born on July 9, 1934, in Greenville, Mississippi, and departed this life on January 1, 2025, at Winchester Nursing in Berne, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.


Mrs. Jones was a former Certified Nursing Assistant for Dexter Hospital in Dexter, Missouri, she had worked for the ARC Group Home in Dexter and was a resident of Dexter. She was of the Church of God faith, and she was a former Pink Lady for Dexter Hospital.


She was untied in marriage to Harly Wayne Jones. Mr. Jones preceded her in death on January 14, 1991.


She is survived by two daughters, Becky Lizenbee (Rickie Rainey) and Virginia “Katie” Wilson (Chesley) all of Dexter, Missouri; by two brothers, David Kirksey (Pat) of South Carolina, and Johnny Kirksey (Marsha) of Gretna, Louisiana; by four grandchildren, Steve Hyten (Brandi), Marcella Dulworth (Christopher), JoAnna Strickler (Craig) and Pattie Leathers; and by many great-grandchildren.


Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, George “Randy” Jones; by her grandson, Clayton Wilson; by two brothers, Helton “Buddy” Gentry and Jerry Gentry; and by three sisters, Francis Messenger, Claudie Worthington, and Mary Elizabeth Kirksey.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Travis Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Dexter Cemetery.

Wanda Lois McRoy Miller, daughter of the late Cecil McRoy and the late Pete and Mary Wells, was born on October 18, 1942, in Puxico, Missouri, and departed this life on January 1, 2025, at Prairie View Nursing Home in Bloomfield, Missouri, at the age of 82 years.


Wanda was a retired caregiver and lived in Puxico for the past twenty years. She was most happy when surrounded by her family.


She is survived by three daughters, Janet (Robert) Stanczak of O’Fallon, Missouri, Donna Hill of Wappapello, Missouri, and Darla (Joe) Kennedy of Dexter, Missouri; by her son, Harold Hill of Wappapello, Missouri; by her sister, Brenda (Jesse) Drowns of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by ten grandchildren, Shannon (Stacy) Bowen, Samuel Bowen, Joe (Kerry) Kennedy, Chase (Mauri) Kennedy, Mallory (Austin) Matthews, Tim (Lindsey) Stanczak, Nicholas Stanczak, Andrew Stanczak, Katrina Hill, and Jessica Hill; by seventeen great-grandchildren, and many other cherished family members.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery near Puxico.
