The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky has issued a Special Weather Statement related to HEAT!
Description
...ELEVATED HEAT INDEX VALUES TODAY... The combination of very warm temperatures along with increasing relative humidity today will result in uncomfortably hot temperatures across the region. Heat index values are expected to range between 100 and 105 degrees this afternoon into the early evening hours. If working outside today, be sure to drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned locations. Be sure to check on those most vulnerable to heat, including children and the elderly, provide shade and fresh water for outdoor pets and livestock, and check the backseat of your vehicle when transporting children.

WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. WHEN...Through this evening. IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Areas of moderate to heavy rain will expand east from southeast Missouri into southern Illinois and far western Kentucky through this morning. Training showers and storms will result in rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hours locally, and flash flooding may develop where this heavy rain occurs.

WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, including the following areas, Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Perry IL, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union, White and Williamson, southwest Indiana, including the following areas, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick, and southeast Missouri, including the following areas, Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Mississippi, New Madrid, Perry MO, Scott, Stoddard and Wayne MO. WHEN...Through Thursday morning. IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will produce heavy rainfall capable of flooding commonly flood prone areas. These storms will also have a tendency to repeat their heavy rains over the same areas. ...Strong Wind Gusts And Small Hail Possible Today... Due to a tight pressure gradient, expect strong gusty west- northwest winds today with gusts up to around 40 mph possible. Showers and isolated afternoon thunderstorms may mix down higher gusts at times. Small hail is possible today, even with non- thunderstorm showers. A cold air funnel or two may also occur. Secure any loose objects and be cautious when driving high profile and lightweight vehicles.

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM CDT MONDAY TO 5 AM CDT TUESDAY... WHAT...South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected. WHERE...All of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. WHEN...From 5 AM CDT /6 AM EDT/ Monday to 5 AM CDT /6 AM EDT/ Tuesday. IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Higher gusts are possible. Be sure to prepare for potential minor damages and travel difficulties due to high winds, especially for high profile and towing vehicles. In addition, area lakes will experience dangerously high wave conditions. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.
