In Memory of Larry Dale Summers

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, Larry Dale Summers, age 60, passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with CNS Lymphoma. Larry was born on August 30, 1963, in Columbus, Mississippi.


Larry met Kendra Machel Durham and they were married on August 12, 1983, in Bernie. They were married for 40 years before Larry’s passing.


He is survived by his wife Kendra Summers of Bernie, Mo.; his beloved daughter Cassie Summers of Dexter, Mo; by his future son-in-law, Justin Cummings of Bernie, Mo and future grandchildren, Lilli and Colton; also by one younger brother Richard Wade Summers and wife Kim of Jackson, Mo; by his mother Frances Summers of Bernie, Mo; by his sister Janette Burns of Morley, Mo.; as well as a multitude of other family and friends.


Preceding him in death was his father, Robert Lee Summers, one older brother, Gary Lee Summers and one sister, Jerrica Moore.


Larry never met a stranger and was blessed with the gift of gab. It was often said that Larry could talk to a fence post. He was also very humorous and not shy about expressing his feelings. He had the ability to fix most anything, especially if it had to do with vehicles. He wasn’t afraid to tackle a project. He enjoyed camping, fishing, tinkering with cars and being with family and friends. He loved hanging out with friends around a bonfire.


Larry was hard working truck driver for 40 years and he was excellent at it. He learned from the best of a long line of truckers, including his father, brothers, and many friends. Larry was leased to his long-time friend’s company, Eddie Foust, at Foust Brother’s Trucking, before becoming ill in October 2023. Larry’s life leaves behind cherished memories, much love, and a legacy of strength and resilience.


Graveside services will be conducted in Bernie Cemetery on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, starting at 1:00 PM. Stan Dauck officiating. Interment Following. Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie is assisting with arrangements.
