In Memory of William Larry York

William Larry York, born September 20, 1941, in Hornersville, Missouri departed this life on March 3, 2024, at the age of 82, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was the son of Lucille Edmonston York and Bill York of Campbell and was one of nine children.


He worked at Brown Shoe Company in Bernie as an assistant foreman for many years. He also worked in maintenance and transportation at Bernie Schools and farmed. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter. He enjoyed fishing and his grandchildren and found it easy to see the evidence of God in the simple things in life and nature. He loved his family deeply.


On February 17, 1962, he was united in marriage to Helen Stanfield and she survives of the home in Bernie.


Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Tom) Thrower and Twila (Ken) Luckett; five grandchildren, Marc Thrower, Brooke (Kyle) Chipman, Wade (Kerianne) Luckett, Collin (Lacey) Luckett, Hannah (Hunter) Kinslow; ten great grandchildren, Kennady and Brynna Thrower, Jo, Rae and Kit Chipman, Hudson and Ryder Luckett, Annabelle Luckett, Roman and Levi Kinslow. He is also survived by five siblings, Wayne York, Karen (Larry) Ligons, Phyllis (Mark) Cannon, Roma (Charlie) Barnes, and Arthur York; as well as many nieces and nephews.


Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Donald York and one sister, Judy Martin.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Thursday March 7, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1: 00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday March 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Neil Durner officiating. Interment will follow in Bernie Cemetery.


Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie is assisting with arrangements.
