In Memory of Jane Lee Wilson

Jane Lee Wilson, daughter of the late Arthur and Emma Gene Jones VanCleave was born on November 29, 1944, in Frankfort, Indiana, and departed this life on August 19, 2023, at her residence in Essex, Missouri, at the age of 78.

Jane was a homemaker and resident of Essex. She enjoyed attending the Essex Church of Christ and loved being around her family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters, Michele Horton and husband Barry of Essex, Missouri, Kathy Green, and Dawn Solinger both of Dexter, Missouri; by her son, Alan Wilson of Dexter, Missouri; by fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Other than by her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Wilson, and Adam Wilson, and by her long-time partner, Leslie William Long.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the New Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Melanie Ann Kennedy Shake

Melanie Ann Kennedy Shake, daughter of Sylva Shirley Camp Kennedy of Dexter, Missouri, and the late Amos Kennedy, was born on August 17, 1958, in Dexter, Missouri, and departed this life on August 15, 2023, at Cotton Point Living Center in Matthews, Missouri, at the age of 64 years.

Mrs. Shake was a homemaker. She loved fashion and enjoyed traveling. She was a social butterfly and never met a stranger.

Along with her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Angela Swasho and husband Robert of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by two brothers, Ben Kennedy of Bernie, Missouri and Terry Kennedy of Puxico, Missouri; by her sister, Patricia Sharp of St. Peters, Missouri, by five grandchildren, Brandon Newell, Gatline Newell, Arianna Carter, Davin Hays, and Theron Kennedy; and by two great-grandchildren, Kyler Newell, and Ocean Newell.

Other than by her father, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Amy Kennedy, and Ashlie Kennedy; and by her brother, Mike Kennedy.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Sadler’s Chapel Cemetery.

In Memory of Billy Joe Lucius

Billy Joe Lucius of Ballarat, Victoria (Australia) passed on to his final reward on July 31, 2023, while visiting friends in Edmond, Oklahoma.  He was 65 years old. 

Born May 10, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, to Shirley Ann Richmond and the late Billy Dave Lucius, "Joe", as he was affectionately called, joined the United States Army at age 17 where he completed his High School Education at Fort Riley, Kansas.  There, he met and married Ramona Lee Simms on September 4, 1976, and together they bore a son, Kevin. 

After the Army, he continued his service in the Kansas Air National Guard while also attending classes at Kansas State University, before ultimately resuming active duty in the United States Navy until August 13, 1983.

After the Army, he continued his military service, Joe went to work for LTV Aerospace Company in Dallas, TX, and while on vacation from an assignment to Saudi Arabia, he met and married Sam-Ang Khongthai on October 27, 1987.

After early retirement in 1994, Joe became a world traveler frequenting Europe, Asia, and all points in between; while never forgetting to stop in and visit friends and family members in Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. 

During a trip to Australia, he met and married Marilou Lozano on December 29, 2003, and together they raised two children, Hugh-James and Dorothy. 

Joe is remembered for his love of family, and his enthusiasm for travel, cars, and computers. 

He is preceded in death by his father. 

He is survived by his son, Kevin; his wife, Marilou, and their two children, Hugh-James and Dorothy; his mother, Shirley Herron; his two sisters, Sharon Cooley and Laura Herron; his five brothers, Ronald and Michael Lucius, Bruce and Kenny Comer, and Richard Herron. 

His funeral service will commence on Monday, August 14, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Bloomfield, Missouri with Pastor Charles Robertson of Bloomfield presiding. 

Internment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.

In Memory of Charlie Fyffe

Charlie Fyffe, son of the late Eugene Fyffe and Ethel Clark Fyffe, was born on June 1, 1951, in Bernie, Missouri, and departed this life on August 10, 2023, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Missouri, at the age of 72 years.


Mr. Fyffe was a Veteran of the United States Army, a former truck driver for Hall Trucking LLC in Charleston, Missouri, and a resident of Dexter, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing.


On September 19, 1994, in Piggott, Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Anita Sims. Mrs. Fyffe survives of their home in Dexter.


Along with his wife, he is survived by two step-daughters, Tina Clark and husband Ronny of Zalma, Missouri, and Amy Frields of Dexter, Missouri; by his brother, Darrell Fyffe of Wichita, Kansas; by his sister, Janice Shipman of Dexter, Missouri; by five grandchildren, Trista Davis, Tiffany Clark, Katelyn Frields, Trey Clark, and Kinley Frields; and by three great-grandchildren, Raelynn Davis, Riverleigh Clark, and Beau Davis.


Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eugenia Sue Abelson.


Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Josh Hester and Rev. Jerry Metcalf officiating. Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.


Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.

In Memory of Shela Jean Burch

Shela Jean Burch daughter of the late Edward Kirkpatrick and Carol Jines Kirkpatrick was born on May 20, 1958 in Bernie, Missouri and departed this life on August 9, 2023 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri at the age of 65.


She was of the Christian faith and was a resident of Bernie, Missouri. She had worked in the housekeeping department at the Southeast Health of Stoddard County. She enjoyed to fish, paint, gardening, and crocheting.


On May 6, 1978 she was united in marriage to Carl Burch in Bernie, Missouri. Mr. Burch survives of their residence in Bernie.


Other than by her husband, she is survived by one son, Carl Burch Jr. of Dexter, Missouri; by two daughters, Lori Phelps and husband Scott of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Lisa Burch of Bernie, Missouri; by two brothers, Tim Kirkpatrick and Mike Kirkpatrick both of Bernie, Missouri; by three grandchildren, Clayton Phelps, Jerod Burch and Briana Christian; by three great-grandchildren; and by her faithful canine companion, Bentley.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri.


Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Fitzpatrick officiating.


Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
