
Don Walters, son of the late Marvin Walters and Lillian Brown Walters, was born on March 17, 1940, in Malden, Missouri, and departed this life on July 13, 2023, at his residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 83 years.
Mr. Walters was a veteran of the United States National Guard, serving for six years. He was the owner of Don’s Upholstery, a former bus driver for Bernie Public Schools, and a former EMT. He attended Sunnyvale General Baptist Church in Malden, Missouri.
He was united in marriage to Loretta Barnes, on June 4, 1971, in Bernie, Missouri.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta Walters of Dexter, Missouri; by his son Brad Walters and wife Joni of Jackson, Missouri; by his daughter-in-law, Angie Smothers of Bernie, Missouri; by four grandchildren, Ashlee Smothers, Tara Smothers (TC Gromer), Brayden Walters, and Ava Walters; and by three great-grandchildren, Carter Gromer, Keylee Gromer, and Keeton Gromer.
Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Royce Lee Smothers; and by his sister, Patsy Kay Barnes.
Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Monday, July 17, 2023, 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. James Hamlett officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
