In Memory of Minnie Lee (White) Barnes

Minnie Lee (White) Barnes, 98, of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Parma, Missouri departed this life on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 7:32 am. She was born June 7, 1924 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Rufus and Irene (Ash) White. She married the late Samuel Barnes on July 5, 1942 and to that union eleven children were born. Their legacy produced 63 offspring (11 children, 21 grandkids, 26 great-grandkids, and 5 great-great-grandkids.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Joyce (Barnes) Hodges, Shirley (Barnes) Dixson, and Samearl (Barnes) Henderson, all of St. Louis, MO; four sons, Edward R. Barnes formerly of Sikeston, MO, Rickey and Raymond Barnes, both of Parma, MO, and Russ Barnes of Atlanta, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Four children preceded her in death: Mae Cherrie (Barnes) Landers of Chicago, IL; two baby sons, Jerry Joe and Samuel Barnes, Jr. both of Blytheville, AK and Irene Barnes of Parma, MO. Four grandchildren have preceded her in death: Antonio M. Landers (Chicago, IL), Michael D. Barnes (Parma, MO), Leah L. Dixson (St. Louis, MO), and Janee’ A. Welch (St. Louis, MO).

Minnie previously attended New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Essex, MO and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Parma, MO at the time of her passing. She formerly worked for Federal Mogul (Sterling), DAEOC, and Tri-County.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  A memorial service will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Alvin E. Hightower officiating.  Interment will follow in them Macedonia Cemetery in Malden.

Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie is assisting with arrangements.
