In Memory of Robert Lee Jones

Robert Lee Jones of Malden, Missouri, the son of the late Ola May (Jones) Getter "Big Mamma"  was born on July 4, 1944 in Marvell, Arkansas. He passed away at his granddaughter's (Shay) home in Bernie, Missouri, at the age of 79 years 10 months and 19 days.

Mr. Jones lived nearly all his life in Malden, Missouri.  Where he was known and loved by his community.  He served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War.  When he returned home he worked for Allen Christian and Bud Shell for 14 years. He also worked for Bell Young Farms and other farm work for 20 years.  He loved fishing, working in his garden and working on cars.  He also loved to BBQ and frying fish.  He would always hang out in the yard with his wife talking to and about anybody.

Surviving are his children, Cathy and Tracy Hampton of Cape Girardeau, Missouri;  Robert Jr. and Sydney Jones of Sikeston, Missouri; Barbara  Daniels of Howardville, Missouri; Angela and Lee Robinson of Lilbourn, Missouri; Ulysses and Patricia Jones of Essex, Missouri; and Yolanda Jones and Henry Owrey of Springfield, Missouri;.  

Also surviving one brother, Billy Joe Getter; 24 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Earnestine Jones of 54 years 10 months and 26 days; one son, Orlando Jones; one daughter, Shirley Jones; one grandson, Cavasia Jones; one brother, Jessie Getter and  one sister, Mae Ida Whittaker.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri, with Funeral Service to follow with Minister Amos Hampton officiating. 

Internment will take place on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
