Dexter High School Tennis Team Wins Class 1 District 1 Title

The Dexter High School Bearcats tennis team hosted Potosi High School in the District Championship match today, May 10th with a ticket to the Sectional round on the line.

The Bearcats came away with a 5-0 win and took home their first District Championship since 2019.

In the doubles portion of the head-to-head, the Bearcats swept all 3 matches.

#1 Doubles Match, Boles/Blocker come back from an early 0-3 deficit to pull out the 8-6 victory over Isiah Marty and Draven Griffin.

#2 Doubles Match, Worley and Chamberlain defeat Wyatt Mercer and Haydin Eckhoff 8-3.

#3 Doubles Match, Jones and Williams dominate the play and came away with an 8-1 win over Wyatt Richards and Logan Compton

"In the singles matches, we only saw the completion of 2 matches before the 5 total wins necessary to win was reached," commented head tennis coach Eric Boles.

#6 Rhyder Williams was the first singles win for the Bearcats as he defeated Logan Compton 6-0, 6-1.

#5 Logan Jones clinched the 5th match and the win for the Bearcats with his 6-3, 6-2 win over Wyatt Richards.

The following matches, in progress, were not finished because the win was clinched after the first 5 completed matches:

#1 Peyton Boles was leading #1 Marty 6-4, about to start the second set

#2 Lawson Blocker was only 1 game into his singles match when the contest was called

#3 Cooper Worley was also leading in his match but failed to complete the first set.

#4 Drew Chamberlain was leading in his match, but failed to complete the first set.

The Bearcats will travel to St. Louis for the Sectional Round of MSHSAA’s Boys Tennis Tournament where they will take on District 4 winner University City High School. 

The date and time for the sectional match has yet to be determined.

MSHSAA Class 4, District 1 Baseball Tournament Bracket and Seeds Released

The Missouri State High School Athletic Association (MSHSAA) Class 4, District 1 spring Baseball Tournament seeds and bracket have been released.

Games will be played at Dexter at East Park.

Notre Dame earned the #1 seed followed by #2 Kennett, #3 Fredericktown, #4 Doniphan, and #5 Dexter.

Regular Season Records are Notre Dame (11-9-1), Kennett (17-8), Fredericktown (10-8), Doniphan (10-10) and Dexter (9-12).

Notre Dame earned a bye in round one and will play the winner of the Donphan/Dexter game on Monday, May 15th at 4:00 p.m.

Doniphan and Dexter will play on Friday, May 12th at 11:00 a.m.

Kennett will play Fredericktown on Monday, May 15th at 6:00 p.m.

The Championship will be Wednesday, May 17th at 4:30 p.m.

Boles Qualifies for Individual Tennis Sectionals

Dexter Tennis participated in the Class 1 District 1 Individual Tournament on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

The Bearcats came home with two medalists.

In singles, Peyton Boles qualifies for his 2nd consecutive trip to the Sectional round with a shot at going to the state tournament.

He took home the Silver Medal and is the only individual Bearcat to qualify for Sectionals.

In doubles, Cooper Worley and Drew Chamberlain came up just a bit short, after a MARATHON semifinal, of qualifying for sectionals; however they did earn a medal for their efforts.

They ended up taking home the Bronze Medal and finishing their match well after 9:30 pm last night.

"All of our boys put in valiant efforts yesterday in the individual tournament," stated head Coach Eric Boles.  "I could not be more proud to be their coach."

MSHSAA Class 2, District 1 Softball Tournament Bracket and Seeds Released

Missouri State High School Athletic Association (MSHSAA) softball tournament bracket and seeds have been released.  Games will be played at Portageville and will begin on Friday, May 5th.

Senath-Hornersville with Southland with a record of 13-5 earned the No. 1 spot.

Kennett (20-8) earned the #2 seed followed by #3 Portageville (12-9); #4 Malden (12-10); #5 East Prairie (13-7); #6 Dexter (6-89); #7 NMCC (3-14); #8 Charleston (2-9); and #9 Caruthersville (1-15).

#8 Charleston will play #9 Caruthersville on Friday, May 5th at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 6th Schedule:

10:00 a.m. #2 Kennett vs #7 NMCC

Noon #3 Portageville vs #6 Dexter

2:00 p.m. #1 Senath-Hornersville w/Southland vs the winning of the Charleston vs Caruthersville game.

4:00 p.m. #4 Malden vs #5 East Prairie

Semifinals will be Monday, May 8th at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

District Championship will be Tuesday, May 9th at 4:30 p.m.

Dexter Schools - Free Sports Physical Day for Athletes/Band

Free Physical Day will be held at the SE Health Hospital Clinic (N. One Mile Road) on Thursday, May 4th, from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. for any incoming 7-12 student that plans to participate in sports and/or HIGH SCHOOL band.  Middle School Band does not have to get physicals.

A new MSHSAA physical form  will be on hand in the Dexter High School office and T.S. Hill Middle School office.

Students should complete the first three pages before meeting with the healthcare provider.

A parent/guardian signature is required on the form. 

The school will only need a copy of the last page. 

All student athletes must get a physical.
