In Memory of Cheryl Ann Bowling

Cheryl Ann Bowling of Bloomfield, Missouri, the daughter of the late Leroy and Hazel Madeline (Fowler) Westmorlan was born on June 1, 1952, in Kennett, Missouri, and  passed from this life on May 8, 2023, in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 70 years, 10 months, and 7 days.

She has lived in the Southeast Missouri area all of her life.  She liked to read, play piano and loved music, spending time with family, especially spoiling her grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Dexter. She retired in 2010 from the State of Missouri.

Cheryl was married to the love of her life, Kenneth ( Kenny) Wayne Bowling on September 6, 1970,  in Bloomfield, Missouri.

She is survived by her husband of the home; one son, Brad (Caroll) Bowling of Bloomfield, Missouri; one daughter, Kristi Sanders of Bloomfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, David (Terina) Westmorlan of Diehlstadt, Missouri; one sister, Darla (Lynn) McMullin of Essex, Missouri; several nieces and nephews as well as a host of family and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Essex Cemetery In Essex, Missouri at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Charlie Robertson of Bloomfield, Missouri, officiating, with Watkins And Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of John Benton McNew

John Benton McNew, son of Dortha Gilbert McNew of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and the late Leroy McNew, was born on May 3, 1956, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on May 5, 2023, at his residence in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 67 years.

Mr. McNew was a Veteran of the United States Marines. He was a maintenance supervisor for W. W. Wood in Dudley, Missouri, a member of the Bible Tabernacle Church in Bloomfield, Missouri, and the VFW in Dexter.

On November 26, 1983, in Dexter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Mamie Vincent. Mrs. McNew preceded him in death on December 18, 2015.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Heather McNew of Joplin, Missouri, and Stacey Perkins and husband Royal of Van Buren, Missouri; by two step-daughters, Paula Seachrist and husband Sam of Dexter, Missouri, and Vicki Foster of Dexter, Missouri; by two brothers, Daniel McNew and wife Lynn and Steve McNew and wife Crystal all of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by his sister, Veronica Pruitt of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and by eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Other than by his wife and father, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Dalton Hill; by his step-son, Robert Foster; and by his brother-in-law, Terry Pruitt.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Charlie Robertson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In Memory of Carrol Russell

Carrol Russell, daughter of the late Arthur Slinkard and Amy Dunn Slinkard, was born on February 17, 1933, in Dexter, Missouri, and departed this life on May 3, 2023, at Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 90 years.

Mrs. Russell was a former secretary for Farm Bureau in Bloomfield, Missouri, retiring after 50 years of service. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. Carrol was a former 4H counselor and gave her time freely to serve her church.

On May 16, 1952, in Dexter, Missouri, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Russell. Mr. Russell preceded her in death on December 18, 2022.

She is survived by her sons, Terry Russell and wife Cathy of Fredericktown, Missouri and Randy Russell of Dexter, Missouri; by her daughter, Wilma Pennington and husband Randy of Dexter, Missouri; and by six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Other than by her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Monroe Buchanan, Ralph Buchanan, Paul Buchanan, and Freddie Buchanan; by her sister, Rita Dalota; and by her beloved daughter-in-law, Betty Russell.

Visitation will be held at the First Christian Church in Dexter on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Funeral services will then be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mike Williams officiating.

Private interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Sherlene Arnholt, daughter of the late Cassius Chrisman and Erma Vancil Chrisman, was born on April 9, 1936, in Dexter, Missouri, and departed this life on May 1, 2023, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 87 years.

Mrs. Arnholt was the former owner of Sherlene’s House of Fashion in Dexter and a former dental hygienist for Dr. Boone in Dexter. She was also a pilot and sold real estate in Arkansas. She loved playing golf and was a lady’s golf champion five years in a row, in Albertville, Alabama.

In 1976, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Jerry Arnholt. Mr. Arnholt preceded her in death on February 22, 2017.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Teresa Martinez (Raul) of Murphy, North Carolina, by her brother, Jerry Chrisman of Dexter, Missouri; by her sister Ramona Carter of Dexter, Missouri, her granddaughter, Ashley Suess of Ocala, Florida; by two great-grandchildren, Mason Suess and Mabree Suess; and by lots of nieces and nephews.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Loudean Chrisman, Sue Mae Chrisman, Helen Hanna, and Linda Cross.

No services are planned.

In Memory of Timothy Stoner

Timothy Stoner, son of the late Robert Stoner and Betty Hembry Stoner, was born on October 7, 1955, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on May 1, 2023, at his residence in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 67 years.

Mr. Stoner was a former employee of Gates Rubber Company in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and a farmer. He was an avid mechanic and fisherman.

On June 7, 1978, in Dexter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Amanda Plunkett. Mrs. Stoner survives of their home in Poplar Bluff.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Allen Wilson of Dexter, Missouri, by his daughter, Tamara Stoner of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by two brothers, Bobby Stoner, and DeWayne Stoner, both of Dexter, Missouri; by his sister, Debbie Whitsel of Benton, Missouri; and by eight grandchildren.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Gwen Stoner; and by his sister, Joyce Whitsel.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

A memorial service will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Sycamore Cemetery.
