In Memory of Sherlene Arnholt

Sherlene Arnholt, daughter of the late Cassius Chrisman and Erma Vancil Chrisman, was born on April 9, 1936, in Dexter, Missouri, and departed this life on May 1, 2023, at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 87 years.

Mrs. Arnholt was the former owner of Sherlene’s House of Fashion in Dexter and a former dental hygienist for Dr. Boone in Dexter. She was also a pilot and sold real estate in Arkansas. She loved playing golf and was a lady’s golf champion five years in a row, in Albertville, Alabama.

In 1976, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Jerry Arnholt. Mr. Arnholt preceded her in death on February 22, 2017.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Teresa Martinez (Raul) of Murphy, North Carolina, by her brother, Jerry Chrisman of Dexter, Missouri; by her sister Ramona Carter of Dexter, Missouri, her granddaughter, Ashley Suess of Ocala, Florida; by two great-grandchildren, Mason Suess and Mabree Suess; and by lots of nieces and nephews.

Other than by her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Loudean Chrisman, Sue Mae Chrisman, Helen Hanna, and Linda Cross.

No services are planned.

In Memory of Timothy Stoner

Timothy Stoner, son of the late Robert Stoner and Betty Hembry Stoner, was born on October 7, 1955, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on May 1, 2023, at his residence in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, at the age of 67 years.

Mr. Stoner was a former employee of Gates Rubber Company in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and a farmer. He was an avid mechanic and fisherman.

On June 7, 1978, in Dexter, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Amanda Plunkett. Mrs. Stoner survives of their home in Poplar Bluff.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Allen Wilson of Dexter, Missouri, by his daughter, Tamara Stoner of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by two brothers, Bobby Stoner, and DeWayne Stoner, both of Dexter, Missouri; by his sister, Debbie Whitsel of Benton, Missouri; and by eight grandchildren.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Gwen Stoner; and by his sister, Joyce Whitsel.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

A memorial service will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Sycamore Cemetery.

In Memory of J.W. Lawrence

J.W. Lawrence of Winfield, Missouri, the son of the late Armpstead and Reathie (McWaters) Lawrence was born on September 28, 1928, in Golden Pond, Kentucky, and passed from this life on April 28, 2023, in Winfield, Missouri, at the age of 94 years.

He has lived in Missouri since about the age of 10.   He loves tinkering and repairing things, gardening, loved being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, especially spoiling his grandchildren. He was of the Baptist Faith. J.W. volunteered with Meals On Wheels and drove a shuttle bus. He retired in 1991 after a career in machine working and the city of St. Louis.

He was married to Betty Jean (Breece) May 29, 1951,  in Piggott, Arkansas, and remained married until her passing in September 10, 2006.

J.W. is survived by one son, Doyle (Cheryn) Lawrence of Winfield, Missouri; two daughters, Donnah Jean Lawrence of Mesa, Arizona; Diane and fiancé  (Buddy) Lawrence of Warrenton, Missouri; four grandchildren, Carly (Jared) Miller of Eloy, Arizona; Holly (Lucas) Hirsh of Phoenix, Arizona; Jason (Angela) Lawrence of St. Louis, Missouri; and Nicole Lawrence of St. Louis, Missouri;  several nieces and nephews as well as a host of family and friends.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Mac, Mike and Deb Lawrence; five sisters, Ima Jean Smith, Christine Little, Earnistine Brooks, Alfreda Gibson and Juanita Swinger.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel In Dexter, Missouri, from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30  P.M. with service to follow with Pastor Charlie Robertson of Bloomfield, Missouri, officiating.  

Interment will follow at the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie, Missouri with Watkins And Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of Eula Fern Jones Botsch

Eula Fern Jones Botsch, daughter of the late Victor Allgood and Bertha Crites Allgood was born on September 25, 1930 in Lutesville, Missouri and departed this life on April 28, 2023 at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter at the age of 92.

Mrs. Botsch was a member of the Bernie Church of Christ and was a resident of Bernie. She had worked at the Bernie School District as their custodian. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and spending time with her family.

She was first united in marriage to Wallace Coy Jones on January 8, 1949 in Piggott, Arkansas. Mr. Jones preceded her in death on July 7, 1990. She later married Erwin Botsch on July 12, 1997. Mr. Botsch preceded her in death on August 2, 2018.

She is survived by one son, Cary Jones of Bernie, Missouri; by one sister, Wilma Louise Edwards; by one granddaughter, Roxann Harris; and by one great-granddaughter, Jazzlyn Harris.

Other than by her husbands and parents she was preceded in death by her son, Lonnie Jones; by her daughter, Cleta Gay Jones; by three brothers; John Allgood, Jim Allgood, and Victor Allgood Jr.; by five sisters, Irene Kennedy, Earlene Allgood, Oleta Odem, Elizabeth Walker and Juaneta Sissom.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie, Missouri.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Stan Dauck officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

In Memory of Marjorie Lucille Duley

Marjorie Lucille Duley, daughter of the late John Luther Gibson and Marceline Lucille Wood Gibson, was born on February 5, 1946, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and departed this life on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at her home in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 77 years, surrounded by her loved ones.

Marjorie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She loved spending time with her family, hosting family gatherings and spending time with her friends. She was a devout Christian and attended the Risen Church in Dexter. She especially enjoyed her years teaching the Children's Sunday School classes and making greeting cards for her church. Since 1965, Marjorie and John owned and operated Duley Machine Shop in Dexter, Missouri, and she has been a pillar in the community.

Marjorie loved to Square dance. She and John square danced for many years and made many friends. She also loved to travel the world with close friends and made many wonderful memories.

She was united in marriage to John William Duley on February 14, 1964. She is survived by her loving husband John; by two sons, John Alan Duley and wife Garilin of Dexter, Missouri, and David V. Duley and wife Paula of Dexter, Missouri; by two grandchildren, Jeff Samoska and wife Michelle of Houston, Texas and Alannah Duley and fiance’ Madison Craigmiles of Dexter, Missouri; by two great-grandchildren, Greta Doria and Amia Samoska; by her brother, Dennis Gibson of Dexter, Missouri; and by her sister, Betty Fleming and husband David of Dexter, Missouri.

Visitation will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Travis Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Stoddard County Children’s Home, PO Box 164, Dexter, Missouri 63841.
