DHS FBLA Members Earn Honors at Missouri State Leadership Conference

Dexter High School FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) had 17 members compete at the Missouri State Leadership Conference in Springfield, Missouri.

From April 16th to 18th, students competed in performance events, participated in leadership workshops and networked with other FBLA members across the state. The DHS club adviser is Sharon Guy.

During the Awards of Excellence ceremony the following students were recognized on the stage. Preston Fitzpatrick qualified for the National Leadership Conference with a 4th place in Accounting I. He also placed 6th in Computer Applications.

The Business Plan team of Cy Scott and Korbin Williams placed 7th.

Earning 8th place were the Website Design team of Maddie Glaus, Shelby Dawson and Landon Jarrell, as well as the Computer Game and Simulation Programming team of Tyson Carmode, Korbin Williams and Caden Lee.

Dexter Board of Education Meeting Minutes - April 2023

The Dexter School Board met on Wednesday at its April meeting.  Board secretary, Laura Miller, administered the oak of office to Ron Glaus, Ben Worley, and Saren Demaree.  Each retained their seats on the board via the April 4th Municipal Election.

The Board then elected officered for the next year.  Nancy Mayer was elected president, Ben Worley elected vice-president, Laura Miller elected secretary and Saren Demaree elected treasurer.

Assistant Superintendent Gavin Miller informed the board that the diesel fuel price was within the price range of $2.95 to $3.10 a gallon. This is the price range the district has been waiting for. Miller said he will contact the three vendors the district has dealt with in the past and make a purchase of 7,200 gallons of fuel at the best price. The board approved the move.

Eric Boles then presented the text book purchase information. He said the committee met several times to determine the best material for each building. Each year a different subject(s) must be updated. This year is social studies.

The purchase features a combination of digital copies and hard copies for the school libraries and teacher’s rooms. The board approved the purchase in the amount of $246,315.62.

The district was seeking bids from area banks for banking services. The district received bids from Southern Bank and First Midwest Bank. The board selected the bid from Southern Bank as its depository for its primary banking services.

Executive Session

The board approved the following resignations, retirements, and/or recensions: Cindy Whitaker-Middle School Assistant VB Coach, effective at the  conclusion of the 2022/23 school year, Crystal Kelley-SW Title Teacher, resignation effective at the conclusion of the 2022/23 school year and Jennifer Hayman-Southwest Paraprofessional, resignation effective at the conclusion of the 2022/23 school year.

The board approved the transfer of Ali Calone transfer from Central to Southwest, Megan Crosby transfer from Southwest to middle school and Salvadora Botsch transfer from Central to District Translator for the 2023-2024 school year, pending a favorable background check and appropriate certification.

The board approved the hiring of Morgan Nichols-first grade teacher, Addie Kruse-high school volleyball assistant coach, Drew Keen-middle school football assistant coach and Jason Comfort-high school football volunteer.  

Shawna Read-Speech and Language Pathologist. for the 2023-2024 school year, pending a favorable background check and appropriate certification:

The board approved the hiring of Holly Milan- full-time bus aide and Tiffany Wiggins-for prom clean-up for the 2022-2023 school year pending a favorable background check and appropriate certification. 

The board approved the employment of the classified staff for the 2023-24 school year.  

The board approved the employment of the summer school staff for the 2023 summer.  

The board approved granting permission to Superintendent Amy James for the hiring of a teacher pending a favorable background check prior to the May board meeting.  The purpose of this urgency is hiring a certified and qualified individual.  The names of these individuals will be formally presented at the May board meeting.

"Mock Crash" Held at Bloomfield High School

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is committed to promoting safety through enforcement and education. 

On April 12, 2023, Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with personnel from the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, Bloomfield Department of Public Safety and Stoddard County Ambulance District participated in a "Mock Crash" scenario at Bloomfield High School. 

The "Mock Crash" scenario simulated a single vehicle crash involving multiple injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving while intoxicated during the scenario.   

The Missouri State Highway Patrol provides educational presentations promoting traffic safety in an effort to increase use of safety belts and decrease the number of injury and fatality crashes on Missouri roadways.

Dexter CTA Retirement Tea will be held on Tuesday, April 18th at 4:00 p.m. in the Bearcat Event Center lobby.
