In Memory of Orvel Wayne Witt

Orvel Wayne Witt, son of the late Curtis Witt and Mattie Bullard Witt, was born on June 9, 1944, in Charleston, Missouri, and departed this life on April 15, 2023, at his residence in Sikeston, Missouri, at the age of 78 years.

Mr. Witt was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy and the Missouri National Guard. He was a former co-owner of Flowers Plus and Flower Basket in Sikeston and a former sales rep for Electro Battery, Otasco and Wal-Mart. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston and a former member of Murray Lane Baptist where he was involved with the youth group for many years. He was also a former Hunter Safety Instructor and Boy Scout Leader. Orvel loved God, his family, and his guns.

On November 14, 1964, in Charleston, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Ann Cathey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn Witt of Sikeston, Missouri; by his son, Randy W. Witt of Morley, Missouri; by two daughters, Julie A. Witt of Sikeston, Missouri, and Donna K. McClard and husband Gary “Butch” of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by his “other” daughter, Donna Jo “DJ” Mofield of Dexter, Missouri; by three grandchildren who he dearly loved, Austin Witt and fiancé Michaela Glaus, Ann Marie McClard and Garrett McClard; and by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Glen Witt, Lonnie Witt, Wilbur Witt, and Herbert Witt; by two sisters, Virginia King, and Leta Jolliff; and by his “other” son-in-law, Chris Mofield.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with full miliary honors.

Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is assisting with arrangements.
