The Dexter Golf Team earned a 1st Place finish on the road at the Kennett Quad Golf Tournament on Wednesday in their opening match against the Indians, Sikeston Bulldogs, and the Caruthersville Tigers.
Scores for Dexter were Alyssa Warren 38, Carter Stone 41, Tucker Temples 42, and Ben Christian 43 totaling 164.
Sikeston finished second with a score of 194. Ben James finished with 47, William Lape 49, Camden Copeland 49, and Harrison Arndt 49.
Kennett had just two golfers, Dax Sutton scored 55 while Tanner Hansen scored 62.
With only three, Caruthersville Tiger's Thomas Hays scored 51, Jackson Holder scored 44 and John Thompson scored 54.
"This was a good first match for us," commented Coach Eric Sitze. "Great job by Alyssa Warren earning medalist honors. She has worked really hard on her game over the summer and this past winter it showed today."
"Our team scores will continue to improve. We are very young and may be inconsistent at times this year, but our goal is to try and stay under 160 right now. Hopefully as the season progresses we can lower that goal," continued Sitze.
The Dexter Bearcats Golf Team will travel to Sikeston on Monday, March 27th.
In their opening 2023 debut the varsity Bearcats defeated the Poplar Bluff Mules by a score of 6-3 at Poplar Bluff High School.
In the doubles matches, the #3 doubles team of Logan Jones and Rhyder Williams defeated Matthew Penn and Isaac Cato 8-4, earning the first point of the season for the 'Cats.
The #1 doubles team of Peyton Boles and Cooper Worley defeated Angelo Sorrentino and Alejandro Rivetti 8-5 to secure their 2nd point.
The #2 doubles team of Lawson Blocker and Drew Chamberlain lost to Tavian Towns and Carson Todd by a score of 6-8.
Singles results were:
#1 Peyton Boles defeated Angelo Sorrentino 9-7 after going down 0-5 and making a furious comeback.
#2 Lawson Blocker defeated Alejandro RIvetti 8-5
#3 Cooper Worley lost to Tavian Towns 5-8
#4 Drew Chamberlain defeated Carson Todd 8-4
#5 Logan Jones lost to Matthew Penn lost in a tiebreaker 8-9 (4-7)
#6 Rhyder Williams defeated Isaac Cato 8-3
Both Peyton Boles and Rhyder Williams earned the maximum of 2 points on the day.
