In Memory of Ayana Sky Robinson

Ayana Sky Robinson, the daughter of Frank Robinson of Hayti, Missouri and Harley Dean of Bernie, Missouri was born on June 22, 2022, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on February 28, 2023, at the Southeast Health of Stoddard County at the age of 8 months and 6 days.

Ayana was only with us for a short time, but she made a big impact on our lives and will always hold a spot in our hearts

Other than by her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Billy and Anna Sanders of Bernie, Missouri; by three aunts, one uncle and many cousins.

In Memory of Christopher Lee Dawson

Christopher Lee Dawson, son of Phil Dawson and Penny Carson Dawson, was born in Kennett, Missouri on December 10, 1976. And departed this life Hilton Head, South Carolina of on March 1, 2023 at the age of 46.


Mr. Dawson was a Retired Disabled Veteran of the United States Army. He was a resident of Bluffton, South Carolina.


He was united in marriage to Scarlett Ann Ayers in Piggott, Arkansas on May 15, 2002. Mrs. Dawson and daughter Emma survives in their home in Bluffton, South Carolina.


Other survivors include his parents, Phil & Penny Dawson of Bernie; one daughter, Emma Ann Dawson of Bluffton, South Carolina; by one brother, Terry Dawson & wife Catrina of Dexter, Missouri; by three sisters, Tommie Ellenburg & husband Allan of Bernie, Missouri, Toni Hill & husband Jeremy of Bloomfield, Missouri and Loni Dawson of Caruthersville, Missouri; also by other relatives and many friends.


Friends may call at Mathis Funeral Home in BERNIE, Missouri on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 10:30 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. Funeral services will then be conducted in the Mathis Funeral Chapel at 1:30 P.M. with Rev. Jeff Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with full military honors.

In Memory of Henry Wayne DeGroot

Henry Wayne DeGroot, son of the late Henry E. DeGroot and Alma May Shular DeGroot, was born on December 12, 1948, in Holcomb, Missouri, and departed this life on February 28, 2023, at his residence in Bloomfield, Missouri, at the age of 74 years.


Mr. DeGroot was a former supervisor for J W Githens Company in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He enjoyed going to deer camp with his friends, watching Rizzoli & Isles and NCIS, and eating Little Debbie snack cakes. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dog “Happy”.


On February 11, 1995, in Broseley, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Goldie Tidwell. Mrs. DeGroot survives of their home in Bloomfield.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cynthia DeGroot of Bloomfield, Missouri; by his step-daughter, Beverly Tidwell of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by his step-son, Donnie Tidwell of Qulin, Missouri; by his brother, Gary DeGroot and wife Carolyn of Gordonville, Missouri; by two grandchildren, Michaela Tidwell of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Angel Garver of Qulin, Missouri; and by his great-granddaughter, Joplin.


Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Timothy Smith.


A gathering of friends will be held at Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

In Memory of Diana Lynn Inman

Diana Lynn Inman of Dexter, Missouri, daughter of the late Dimon Lee Sansoucie  and Peggy Joyce Hannah was born on May 5, 1970, in St. Louis, Missouri, and passed from this life on February 27, 2023, in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 52. 

She was employed in the health and beauty industry serving customers as a salesperson for Avon. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Diana attended the Unity Full Gospel Church of Bernie.

Diana is survived by her mother; Her longtime life partner Gary Rushing; 4 sons, Jeremy Sansoucie of Dexter Missouri; Casey (Audry) Rushing of Poplar Bluff Missouri; Tyler Rapert of East Prarie Missouri; Joushua (Kelsey) Rushing of Bolivar, Missouri; three daughters, Sarah Thomas of Springfield, Missouri; Shannon Hatcher of Springfield, Missouri; and Susan Hatcher of Washington, Missouri; one brother Dan Eaton of Oakland, California; three sisters, Jamie Dickerson of Shelbyville, Illinois; Evelyn Emmons of Windsor, Illinois; and Paula (Nathan) Wheeler of Shelbyville, Illinois; four grandchildren Bailey Sifford, Noah Sansoucie, Amilia Sansoucie and Reed Smiley  as well as a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father.

A  memorial  service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the Unity Full Gospel Church of Bernie, Missouri, with Pastor Royce Champion officiating with Watkins And Sons Funeral of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

In Memory of James “Wade” Gardner

James “Wade” Gardner, 81, of Puxico, passed away February 24, 2023 at his home. He was born August 19, 1941, at Scott, Arkansas, the son of Samuel and Marjorie Wade Gardner.

Wade had been a self-employed mechanic for many years. Later he worked in the Millwright Local Union #716.

Wade enjoyed music and listening to ballgames on his radio in his shop. He loved his dog, Sassy.

Wade and Barbara Cockrell had been united in marriage and she preceded him in death on April 13, 1975.

Survivors include: two sons, James “Jim” Wade (Penny) Gardner, II of Titusville, NJ and Richard (Amy) Yoebstl of Puxico; three daughters, April Vancil of Dexter, Lisa (Greg) Franklin of Puxico and Brenda (Mark) McIntyre of Dexter; a brother, Billie Gardner of Batesville, AR.; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Hull, Matthew (Katie) Franklin, Jordan (Alex) Cryts, Justin (Lindsey) Yoebstl, Samantha(Nick) Cryts, and Cole (Elisbeth) Yoebstl; and five great-grandchildren, Evelynn, Kinley, Sandra, James and Emberly and a great-grandchild, Nora, one the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel with Pastor Josh Reasons officiating.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Bell City.
